RIB have a rule that you cannot cut a horses main off as they hair sample for drug testing .so are horses not racing with tails nowadays .

Where is this Rule?  BTW the RIB don't or shouldn't be making the rules.  HRNZ do that.  The RIB only enforces them.

a lady trainer was warned by RIB that the main on her horse was too short .and she asked why  and was told we are hair sampling now any shorter it will be 5k fine

But where is the rule?  If there isn't one then she can tell them to take a hike.  What's more hair testing might show the presence of a prohibited substance but not accurately when it was administered.

I recently raced a horse with a trainer who shaved her whole mane off. Never once was it questioned by the stipes.

Yep I recall a number of the All Stars team racing with hogged manes

But not all of them.

Funny we used to trim manes because it was beneficial to the health of the horse.  Easier to clean the neck after training or racing.
