Flagship uberalles
I didn't watch the race last night, just looked at the results, what happened to dream about me were there any excuses or is it just not the horse it was before? and will it be on a plane soon to join it's other former stable mates? I don't know about that, they are becoming to in bred now, it's taking the fun out of racing, same as the tracks being made so fast now, it's making it very boring, give me the old grinding breeds any day and tracks like Greymouth, claudlands and thank beegezus for forbury Park!!!

I take your point about the race tracks. When they run home in 25s from the front it does make for boring racing. My original point still stands though. In the 80's studs were importing stallions from the U.S. that probably wouldn't have won a maiden race here. Card Shark, Sholty to name a few and I could go on forever. The problem with in breeding really comes from the large number of mares a stallion can serve each season. Also, the trotting breed is not as inbred as the pacers. Possibly because Europe provides out crosses for North America & Down under bloodlines.

That's a good one alright, but it pays to keep in mind that was back in the era when it was received wisdom that you had to be racing in August to be a Cup Day contender. That sort of thinking no longer applies. Here's the field from 1998 — take out Cullen, and would you really say this field is any better (or even as good) as last night's? A complete change from what I remembered, I sort of got immersed in the pommie racing With trips to Vincennes in France to get a trotting fix.....it was sort of the same as coming back to the east coast bays in Auckland where I grew up and the places that were orchards 20mins away were now housing estates or shopping centres with Chinese writing all over them....My point is the dumbing down of harness racing here stood out like dogs balls!!
