Track a good 3 tonight with the prospect of showers tonight and tomorrow according to the forecast. I hope this doesn't mean any problems.

Interesting awapuni track today, slow 7 when I put my bets on, but certainly changed quickly  to a good track early on. Could have saved my money had I known earlier.

Shad are you stating you lost money because of the track?

I lose no matter what state the tracks in but as it stands I've won the princely sum of seven dollars today which while not a lot is actually pretty good for me.🤫

I guess when you when you backed noted soft trackers, and the conditions change in the blink of an eye, doesn't help matters, my issue was the upgrade from a soft seven to a good 3, surely the pemtrometer could have been a tad more accurate early on, I like you lose alot to, but had a wee purple patch last 2 months, generally most things are stacked against us even at the best of times.

Once again my few gains I make eventually get superseeded by the losses, apart from the odd days on the gee gees I also like live football, but it beats me everytime, which is why I only play now and then, gambling a tough business, they say when the fun stops its time to stop, I'm only occasional, happy being so.

Sports betting not for me, only had one ever, and that a free bee that had to be spend on soccer world cup, had two bets at riccarton Saturday, no return, but both roughies went tidy races and be worth following, thistle and lapa mala who was paying 70s, I like those long odds, had a couple of tidy collects off mi Carol who won a couple a while back one that paid 33s, did take her a few starts to fire in the deep south.

The thing Shad and anybody else here is there is just so much betting options its not always easy to stay focused, if you bet solely on racing then you stay fresh and focused on racing. For me now it's just the next race or the present sporting event, I no longer have the desire to study form as in exotics, I use to but not now, racing a casual interest, betting is too, too much of anything can fry ya brain, same as computers or smartphones can be.

I once had a high tolerance for racing, trackside radio everyday, habits change, I find a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon watching TV does me, even if radio was everyday I wouldn't now listen all day.

Still interested as much as ever in racing news,  and affairs but betting is just casual. have a burst then I'm done for a while, maybe if results were different well that might be a different story. It ain't easy.

That is interesting Mikey.  That proves to me that nothing NZTR or the TAB have done has kept your interest up; in fact they have probably aided your disinterest.

I happened to see an intro to camera on Love Racing from Hawkes Bay Cup day.  Talk about not moving with the times.  It could have been 1990.  I'm not sure the young people they have brought on are the right young people either.  And all that "shopping" and moving in or out so many points ... if they stopped trying to be like other jurisdictions and just put the focus on the Kiwi way it would make more sense and be more entertaining.

Stop trying to be clever is my advice.  It would almost be better with pictures, a bit of background music and no talking.

Agree way to many forms or betting, and just stretches the dollar further,  I'm mostly each way punter, with the odd trifecta or multi, hard enough to pick one let alone 3, got to be careful these days as it's to hard to come by, to fritter away.

Special Agent, I've been following horse racing for 45 years, probably more, so it's just the same old stuff week after week, year after year, the new betting setup probably won't change things, maybe if they have a online casino, that may drag some in but those people probably ain't interested in horse racing anyhow, I just find trackside is fine as long as you don't over do it.

Lots of days I don't even turn it on or the tv either, it's kind of the same with all the online stuff, everything gets a bit tedious, watching rugby is another past time I hardly bother with.

As I stated before I still are interested but I have me few dollars, when it's gone I'm done, I've played the online casinos, watched and bet on horse racing heaps over the years, and the sport and I play lotto too, lotto, I have same numbers draw after draw, buy a few Xtra tickets if the pool gets big but I know my limits, haven't always been like that, be fair to say I overdid the money and time spent but thats life, lots to tempt us I guess.

Getting back to trackside, as I say I can't watch all day, Saturday arvos are fine for a while but a lot of the midweek days ain't really much interest nowadays and judging by the pools for non commingled exotics from aussie racing there ain't as much interest in NZ as some believe it to be.

You see Mikey, you are probably a typical contemporary follower of racing.

I've paid attention over time to the marketing from the TAB, Trackside and now NZTR, though for the life of me I don't know why they have waded into this boots and all, and none of that expensive ill informed marketing is aimed at you.  They are all missing the basics which is annoying when you read through lists of marketing experts employed by each entity

There is no reason for any of the mid week meetings to hold no interest.  Jobs are not being done well enough.  These people are not volunteers.  In fact volunteers would put their heart and soul into promoting a great day at a race meeting they believe in at a track they love.

Some of that aussie midweek stuff, it's pretty ordinary, I've just got it here things going on on life, as I said I have a bit of a burst on the TAB and j only play with a few bucks but it's important the TAB look after the big punters, don't chase them away, the new lot want geo blocking to rein them into one betting site but if they do don't chase them out of the game

I always check out NZ fields to see who's running, the betting not my priority these days.

  • 3 weeks later...

Once again me 2 little deposits at the TAB yielded nothing, even backed Willie Pike winning the last at Albany friday first bet but by Sunday it's gone, football is such a complex game.

Gambling is just a bit of fun for me, some want to be serious good for them, I can live without.
