Special Agent
I am quite surprised no one from the greyhound side of the industry is talking up a storm on here about what expectations the greyhound sect have of Entain.
Yankiwi
I'm not surprised at all. Most greyhound participants have a history of simple acceptance. Whatever GRNZ dishes out, participants take. Then after the fact many stress their lives out, stretch their operations to breaking point and once it snaps, disappear from the scene. The ones that do speak out about what they think is fair & right are snipped out of the industry one at a time by the GRNZ rule book. 2
aquaman
Yes, they are a pretty weak lot by an large. Not very staunch.
Special Agent
And looking at the number of views and replies greyhound participants are either extremely happy with affairs in their code, or are asleep. Chief Stipe, and others, often talk of how people in racing only have themselves to blame because they say and do nothing to enable change, then moan after the event. That's what my first reply alluded to, they're asleep. Here's a little tidbit from 6 or 8 years ago. GRNZ had decided to implement a rule against the use of a "squeaker" during the training of a greyhound, even in the confines of their own private kennels. Pups, break ins & dogs that were already going around the track were not allowed to use even a plush toy with a squeaker in it to play/train with. Participants were openly silent during the vetting process but behind the scenes where bitching back & forth between each other. Everyone except GRNZ knew the idea was completely ludicrous. Anyways, the rule was approved by GRNZ & found it's place in the rule book. I don't recall at which point they turned around that crazy decision, but now they have decided to have a squeaker on the lure arm at the track when they are racing for purse money. I'm sure Aquaman will remember and may be willing to add more about that little fiasco.
Special Agent
Was this when there were greyhound trainers on the board?
Yankiwi
Two trainers were on the board at the time. The link below is an archive of the announcement. https://web.archive.org/web/20180128111006/https://www.grnz.co.nz/News.aspx?NewsID=2607
Special Agent
It is hard to believe this was not a joke. I love the line that you are unable to use "an audible device that mimics an animal". What animal does a squeaker toy mimic??!!
aquaman
Yes they truly are stupid, and weak to boot.

Anyone that voices their concerns have either left the industry or cant be bothered with it anymore. 1
Special Agent
It has become a sad world where a right to have an opinion and the freedom of choice and speech no longer seems to be applicable. What makes matters worse is we appear to have the all time worst leaders in every category you can think of. Not everyone is strong enough to voice an opinion if it is different to the masses. History shows though that change for the better only happens after debate and protest. Edited June 10, 2023 by Special Agent
