Thank you Nz for sending him over. BIG book of rides at Sandown today . I hope he stays in Australia after.

Has been my favourite jockey to back in New Zealand racing as gives it a real go and they respond for him . Plus great to bet on his rides too lol.

My favourite Aussie apprentice is back in action too, Matty Cartwright. Won stacks of races last Winter and is the Aussie equal of Wiremu. Also great punting value 💰

Matty is just back from broken ankle in February. The 2 Lads are sure to have a BIG day today at Sandown and can't wait to see how they go !!🏇🏇💰

That train bolts in . Wiremu Pinn is such a strong rider ...... bolts away with 2nd race easily with Extratwo.

Matty Cartwirght cut out of the Quinella  in the last 50m  but went good. both boys in the Tri.

Time to board the Cruise ship next ? Jaykayann is hotpot in the 3rd

But reckon Wiremu will/could have the 'luck of the Irish' on the Irish Butterfly with 3kg claim and give it a bit of a fright ?

Handy 2nd for Wiremu Pinn in the 3rd race giving the Butterfly a beautiful one-one trip , with a great ride.

Watching for Frigid in the next race with him. (and Blackcomb for matty in race 4)

Meanwhile at Brisbane , the time honoured Brisbane Cup is about to go .......... and a fricken hurdler is favourite ??

Used to be such a great race once. now a bit player on the program . 😪

Jim Cassidy won up here as a young fella on Yippiyio. and celebrates in style lol.😂

As the money keeps flowing in for Wiremu ,

Wiremu rides Nasraawy well for 2nd and Flossing had a great trip too in the 6th but faded late.

I think 'Elkington Road' is near his Best bet of day for Mr Pinn , with the 3kg claim .coming up soon race 7.

Track there looks terrible today, but Elkington Road won over the course and distance and has 2 out of 2 on a heavy.

Great odds at 6-1 EW.  bring it home Wiremu 💰🏇

soorry about that guys . Elkington Road stopped to a walk late on.

anyway the boys were back to quinella the second last race.

Matty Cartwright a great ride on Pacific Ruby and Wiremu 2nd with He's our Bonaval for a nice easy Quinella .💰

One race to come .

Matty Cartwright on Secret Plan and Wiremu Pinn on Deepstrike.  2 quinella's in a row ?  solid chance....

Gammalite, it looks like you were playing Solitaire watching the races alone and commenting on here solo.

No time for Solitaire SA. (although was flogging someone on on-line chess yesterday while waiting for a race to start 😂) Today was balancing watching the Big  raceday,  and AFL footy today . Brisbane Lions Lost sadly. just go crappy at the MCG all the time.

But thought there was some u-beaut betting opportunities to share with the good BOAY folk.

Was pointing out Wiremu Pinn's good form . he finished with 3 wins and 2 seconds today . what a tremendous rider he is.

The trotting boys here are probably a bit more alive it seems though lol.😄

But I think all the nz galloping forum punters are at the Channel X site where their comp finished today or RIP sites , where i've qualified for the comp final there already in 3 weeks time.

Actually, you should take people as you find them.  Never had a problem with Wiremu, always polite and have had many a good conversation with him.  I bet the person from yesterday morning is now hard to find.

He's embarrassed.   But did concede that 'bagging a jockey'  is the quickest way to get egg on your face.

Pinn scores first Saturday wins

Apprentice rider Wiremu Pinn has teamed up with the red-hot Ciaron Maher stable to record his first Saturday metropolitan winner in Australia.

On a three-month loan to Cranbourne trainer Michael Kent on the back of a breakout few seasons in New Zealand, Pinn’s performance to score on hot favourite Extratwo in the second race at Labrokes Park Sandown drew praise from punters and prompted some encouraging words from co-trainer Dave Eustace.

"He’s a good young lad at the right weight and he seems a very relaxed sort of character," Eustace said of the 24-year-old.

"We see him a bit in the mornings where he helps us out and I’m sure if he keeps her head down, he’ll go far."

Eustace said Pinn showed a cool head on Extratwo, who was sent out the $2 favourite.

"It was actually nice for her to settle in behind," he said of the Toronado filly.

"I said to Billy (Pinn) she doesn’t have to lead so I was actually delighted to see him take that advice and she travelled nice and strong without over-doing it.

"Actually when she quickened up she was still quite green under pressure and he did the right thing and straightened her up and put the stick away and she rounded it out well and you’d think she’s going to continue to progress through winter."

Pinn said Extratwo had left quite an impression on him after handling her rivals easily.

"She’s definitely the fastest filly I have ridden since I have been here on Australian turf," Pinn said.

"It’s good to get a winner for Ciaron and David, They are cool guys and obviously they are top class trainers."

Eustace has been in Australia for a number of years but the former Englishman is still to come to terms with AFL as he admitted after the race that he was unaware the filly had such a prominent part-owner as a champion Melbourne footballer.

"Clayton Oliver is in the horse and I didn’t know who he was until seven days ago," Eustace said.

The win of Extratwo was part of a wonderful start to the Sandown meeting for Australia’s leading stable with Maher/Eustace training the first three winners, including the first two quinellas.

Pinn didn’t waste time in finding a second Saturday winner as just two races later he booted home the mare Frigid for trainer John Leek Jnr in the BM70 (1600m).

Pinn made it a treble in the final event of the day with an extraordinary ride aboard Deepstrike.

Co-trainer Michael Kent was still shaking his head at the post-race interview after Pinn took Deepstrike from last to first up the inside rail, despite having discussed going around the entire field for his final sprint.

"The secret’s out now," Kent said of the emerging rider’s talents.

John Leek Jnr had similar thoughts after Pinn won aboard Frigid. ‘’This kid is going to be a superstar,’’ he said.

Thanks Freda , SA and Chief too. Great article there Chief on the young fella from NZ doing well.

I realise I was probably a bit behind the times and everyone there in the gallops world knew young Pinn was over in Oz landed already, and I got a bit excited finding out just yesterday 😂.  But 'knowledge is wealth' as they say and conversely 'ignorance is poverty' . so better to keep up on the pace in this tough racing game .😊🏇

Pinn's claim reduced | RACING.COM

A fifth Australian metropolitan win for Wiremu Pinn at Mornington on Monday will see his claim reduced to two-kilograms after the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Greyt Mumma made it three wins from five starts.

Pinn's five city wins have come from an incredible 26 metro rides in Australia, and the New Zealand expat is quickly establishing himself as one of the state’s in form jockeys.

However, celebrations were restrained after his impressive treble at Sandown last Saturday.

“I just had a quiet night with my girlfriend and a good mate of mine from New Zealand,” he said.

“We just went out for dinner, and I went home to bed.

“I just can’t thank everyone enough for their support.

"You can’t win on slow horses so thank you everyone who’s putting me on."

Pinn rode Greyt Mumma to finish fourth at Sandown last start.

“I didn’t think the owners would have me on after my last ride on her,” he joked.

“That horse just showed real positive intention… I decided to take a sit, it’s probably worked out better for her.

“Once she saw that horse in front of her, it's just given her something to chase today, she’s really hit the line strong.”

The $1.85 favourite took a comfortable trail off a solid speed, before launching at the turn to put her opponents away with ease.

Freedman Racing Manager Brad Taylor was delighted to pick up a metropolitan victory for breeder Rob Love, and was full of praise for Pinn’s cool steer.

“It was our intention to lead, but he (Pinn) summed things up really well when that thing went flying around the outside,” he said.

“We tried at Sandown the other day and just ran into a good race… back to 64 grade, obviously the three-kilo claim for Wiremu helped a lot.

“We’re very lucky to be getting that three-kilo claim, I think it’s gone now!”
