    • You certainly wouldn't bet on our women's cricket team, I think they would struggle to win a raffle.
    • you make some great points Mikey.  But to me a future bet on any Footy Premiership winners , that doesn't make the final is the same as a horse not making it into the future race you bet on it in.   I had to message Sportsbet (who I use for bets) to get AKUTA included in the NZ Cup Futures field. as he had been off the scene with injury for quite some time, and they forgot to put him in. and seems a chance in the race. 🏆👍 They sent back the quote 11-1 , a month or 2 ago. so have taken some of that. (combined with footy team wins like the Bronco's etc) . just a bit of fun and i'm interested in the race. don't want to wait till the day to bet on it. too keen lol.  Anyone putting $1000 on a horse is madness in my opinion. It only becomes about the money then and not enjoying the racing. you're just enjoying the money. No one I know bets 1000 anyway, who would want to lose a thousand on a horse bet ?Answer/ no-one. then why do it lol  , let alone bet $25,000 that you said ?? that would have to be millionaires who don't care. or a punting group Like BGP, but they operate on race-day only I imagine. You wouldn't be betting like that if you needed the money anyway. 🤣
    • Sports betting is completely different, I can bet on Moana Pacifica to win Super Rugby, or Paramatta to win next year's NRL or Southland to win next year's NPC, or Iceland to win Footballs World Cup, reason is they are actually competing in the event, Iceland are still in the qualifying stage, I still havnt been able to find anywhere on the TAB site if I bet on Djockovic to win the aussie open and he don't turn up if I get my dosh back, on betfair I'm sure you did, these days we have been blinded access to these sites so I can't confirm  but with horse racing they ain't competing, you are sumising they may run.  It actually allows people to manipulate the market as the no deductions probably did, maybe deductions should apply to the futures market as well but how does one not know if those close to leap to fame know hes is not going to be here and have stacked on some others in the futures market?I  think no deductions should still be available, even if only for bets placed after 10am, my beef with the futures is if ya horse dont start you dont get a refund,.......Gamma you say it's just a bit of fun but tell me if you know of anyone who will put 25grand or whatever on Leap To Fame or Swayzee or whatever in the futures market, they will or may in the final field option, so the reality is as the futures market is as is now no one really going to bother much with futures market anyway. I just think the discussion should be about the race, not the markets, maybe O O'Connor and the likes are being instructed by the hierachy to push the futures market, don't know why, I may have a bet on the cup, most likely it will be in the last 15 minutes leading up to the race.
    • Seems to me to be a lot of extra staff. On big salaries.
    • Uptown Rythem (Speightstown–Listen to My Song, by Unbridled's Song), who previously stood at Harris Farms, has been relocated to stand at Rancho San Miguel in Central California for the 2026 breeding season. He will stand for $1,500, live foal guarantee. From extremely modest crops, Uptown Rythem's Average Earnings Index of 1.19 is among the best in California. His unraced dam is a half-sister to the dam of 2017 GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes winner La Coronel (Colonel John) from the extended family of 2025 GI Blue Grass Stakes winner Burnham Square (Liam's Map). “As a fast, good-looking son of Speightstown, Uptown Rythem offers value for savvy mare owners who are aiming to compete in California's lucrative sprint program,” said Tom Clark, owner of Rancho San Miguel. “We believe his brightest days as a sire are ahead.” The property of C Punch Ranch Inc., Uptown Rythem is available for inspection at Rancho San Miguel.
