    • Vincent “Jimbo” Bracciale, Jr., winning rider of 3,545 races–the bulk of them in Maryland, passed away Dec. 15, according to a release from the Maryland Jockey Club, which will hold a moment of silence and a video tribute after the first race Saturday. Bracciale was 72. Among Bracciale's many career highlights was piloting Ruffian to victory in the 1974 GI Spinaway Stakes and GIII Astoria Stakes. “I've ridden some good horses, but there was nothing to compare to her,” said Bracciale said in a 1988 interview. He also rode Broad Brush to a third-place finish in the 1986 Kentucky Derby after the pair captured that year's GI Wood Memorial; won the 1986 Queen's Plate on Golden Choice; and, among others, won the 1976 GI Amory L. Haskell Handicap aboard Hatchet Man over Forego during the time he was a contract rider for Greentree Stable. Bracciale retired from riding in 1990 and trained a small stable between 1992 and 2024. From 318 starts as a trainer, he won 31 races. Born in West Virginia and the son of a jockey, Bracciale is survived by his wife of 53 years, Terri, as well as five daughters and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A private service and burial will be held this week, with a public memorial mass to to held Jan. 8 at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Clarksville, Md.   The post Jockey ‘Jimbo’ Bracciale Passes Away at 72 appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. • It's that time of year and Chief Stipe has had his annual Christmas party . A good time was had by All. Chief even decided to have some fun with the trotting Lads and put up $10,000 stake for a fun contest for the trotting Lads , saying they just had to hitch up a horse , race over the hill and come back with 100 of one type of Fruit. The four competitive trotting Lads Immeadiately explode into action. The Galah , Ranga and Gamma have harnessed up some quick ones and are over the hill in record time. The Brodster is a bit slower away but Chief helps him get the bridle on and off Brodie goes too, up and over the hill and in search of some fruit.  Less than half hour and the boys have thundered back over the hill driving hard, and Gamma is back with 100 apples, The Galah zoomed in with 100 Grapefruit and Ranga is back with 100 juicy peaches. Chief then decides he'll sort this lot out by introducing his late 'Self Amusement Clause' of , "I forgot to mention , you had to EAT all the fruit in an hour to be the Winner"  . oh dear , that's a bit of a tough one for the lads. but The Galah , Ranga and Gamma start munching away as fast as possible . Chief chuckles mercilessly and enjoys watching the struggle ,. Chief ducks off to get another beer , and when he returns Galah  Gamma and Ranga are laughing joyfully , and have poured a beer for themselves,  and have given up the EATing challenge after only getting through about half the fruit. Chief says "WTF, don't you want to win the 10 Grand ?"  "Nah Chief "is the reply . "We've just seen the Brodster, and we want to see how he gets on. He's just coming down the hill now with a trailer on with 100 Watermelons "  🤣

    • Seeing as it is a racing chat forum Here's a pretty tame topic for some of the many watchers to maybe have a post. Only rule, no sniping at other's selections Titicaca 13/3.90  Good value, made up a huge amount of ground in the Metropolitan (2600m), then failed in the NZ Cup, I presume due to the heavy track. Surprising as he is by Tarzino Adrian Bull is a renowned trainer of stayers and Kelly Myers gets the ride. Nereus and Ghazzah to also run well
    • Reading HRNZ site 28 Southland horses in Ashburton tomorrow, tell me it had no effect on yesterday cup day and I won't believe ya.
