    • Japanese raider SOUL RUSH (JPN) (h, 7, Rulership (Jpn)–Eternal Bouquet {Jpn}, by Manhattan Cafe {Jpn}) stunned the Meydan crowds as he denied Hong Kong champion Romantic Warrior (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) in the shadows of the post to double his Group 1 tally in the $5 million Dubai Turf sponsored by DP World. The runner-up was always prominent under James McDonald but couldn't get away from his rivals after moving up to lead early in the straight, before Soul Rush emerged from the pack with a determined late bid to get the verdict by a nose, with another length and a quarter back to Maljoom (Ire) (Caravaggio) in third. After a long wait for the judge to call the result, last year's G1 Mile Championship hero was eventually called the winner for Cristian Demuro and Yasutoshi Ikee, in a time of 1:45.84. Lifetime Record: 25-9-4-3. O-Tatsue Ishikawa. B-Shimokobe Farm (Jpn). • Sunday, Parislongchamp, France, post time: 17:00, PRIX D'HARCOURT-G2, €130,000, 4yo/up, 10fT Field: Daring Prince (GB) (Zarak {Fr}), Birr Castle (Fr) (Cloth Of Stars {Ire}), Horizon Dore (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}), Certain Lad (GB) (Clodovil {Ire}) and Map Of Stars (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}). TDN Verdict: Much the most intriguing member of this cast is the unexposed Map Of Stars, who marked his seasonal debut with a smooth success in Saint-Cloud's G3 Prix Exbury last month and has been campaigned with the future in mind. Given that his dam Bateel (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) reached her peak at five,  connections will be buoyed if he turns this into an uncomplicated tune-up for the G1 Prix Ganay. In what is a match if the formbook can be trusted, Horizon Dore is the one to aim at if he is the same horse that got so close to Auguste Rodin (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in last year's G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes. Notably, he excels at this venue with his seven starts here boasting three wins and a narrow second to the high-class Mqse De Sevigne (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) in the G1 Prix d'Ispahan last May.   Sunday, Parislongchamp, France, post time: 15:50, PRIX LA FORCE-G3, €80,000, 3yo, c/g, 9fT Field: Azimpour (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), Dreamliner (Fr) (Adlerflug {Ger}), Nizam (Fr) (Pinatubo {Ire}), Cualificar (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), Reach The Sky (Fr) (Calyx {GB}), New Ground (GB) (New Bay {GB}), and Waka Waka (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}). TDN Verdict: This G1 Prix du Jockey Club trial features a trio of unbeaten and untested colts in Nizam, New Ground and Azimpour and given the upward trajectory of the Francis-Henri Graffard stable over the past year and a bit, it is impossible not to focus in on the latter. He has to be much better than the bare form of his course-and-distance win in October, but the Aga Khan Studs' homebred is a half-brother to The Autumn Sun (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) from the immediate family of Azamour (Ire) (Night Shift) and has a high ceiling genetically. Nurlan Bizakov's Nizam is a son of his G3 Musidora Stakes scorer Nausha (GB) (Kingman {GB}) and like Juddmonte's New Ground has an extra race under his belt than Azimpour but may lack the overall scope of their peer.   Sunday, Parislongchamp, France, post time: 16:25, AL SHIRA'AA RACING PRIX VANTEAUX-G3, €80,000, 3yo, f, 9fT Field: Mandanaba (Fr) (Ghaiyyath {Ire}), Blown By The Wind (Fr) (Waldgeist {GB}), Flaming Stone (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Premonition (Fr) (Lord Of England {Ger}), Wassail (War Front), and Gezora (Fr) (Almanzor {Fr}). TDN Verdict: Another big runner for the Graffard operation, TDN Rising Star Mandanaba makes her keenly-anticipated return having wowed on her sole start at Chantilly in November. Princess Zahra Aga Khan's daughter of her high-achieving Mandesha (Fr) (Desert Style {Ire}) has two proven yardsticks to aim at in Juddmonte's Listed Prix la Camargo winner Flaming Stone and White Birch Farm's acquisition Gezora, the latter of which is now in the same stable following her G3 Prix des Reservoirs win. The latter is out of the G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Germance (Silver Hawk), who was runner-up in the 2006 G1 Prix de Diane for which this acts as a pertinent trial. • DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — In the history of the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen dating back to 1996, no 3-year-old had ever succeeded in defeating their elders in the 1200-meter dash. Only two Northern Hemisphere-bred sophomores had even tried. That all changed in the space of 71 seconds and some change under the Saturday night lights at Meydan, as DARK SAFFRON (c, 3, Flameaway–Meadow Saffron, by Military) busted away from the outside stall and made every yard a winning one, holding off Nakatomi (Firing Line) and a desperately unlucky defending champion Tuz (Oxbow) to cause a major upset. Able to gain a run in the Golden Shaheen after winning a course-and-distance allowance Mar. 14, the $25,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $120,000 OBS April breezer hit the ground running and was able to make the lead, outsprinting the fleet defending champion and American Stage (Into Mischief), while Straight No Chaser (Speightster) was outfooted, appeared to resent the kickback and effectively lost all chance in the first 200 meters. Dark Saffron continued to show the way into the straight hounded along by American Stage, as Tuz–under heavy urging from Tadhg O'Shea–was nevertheless boxing on bravely inside. While he was able to sneak through underneath Don Frankie (Jpn) en route to the victory 12 months ago, there was no such good fortune this time around for Tuz and O'Shea, who attempted to thread the needle, but was denied that access and was steadied. In the meantime, Nakatomi was pinching ground from behind down the outside, but Dark Saffron would not lay down and went on to a narrow victory. Tuz was exceptionally brave in third, with Kurojishi Joe (Jpn) (Furioso {Jpn}) best of the Japanese in fourth. The Dubai Golden Shaheen was contested for the first time as a 'Win and You're In' event for the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint. Sales history: $25,000 Ylg '23 KEESEP; $120,000 2yo '24 OBSMAR. Lifetime Record: 8-3-2-2. • You don't always get what you deserve in life. Just take a look at Believing (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) for example. George Boughey's razor-sharp sprinter had gone agonisingly close to breaking her duck at the highest level three times last season and those closest to her must have been thinking if her turn would ever come. Beaten but unbowed, Believing showed the world what she is capable of in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint, going some way in justifying Coolmore's 3 million gns investment at last year's Tattersalls December Mares Sale.  Believing may have been a deserving breakthrough winner at the highest level but by God did she have to work for it under William Buick. Poking up the inner, the five-year-old kept on best to better Japanese runner Win Carnelian (Jpn) (Screen Hero {Jpn}) with Ed Bethell's Regional (GB) (Territories {Ire}) back in third.  A delighted Buick said afterwards, “George was really bullish about her before the race-her prep has been faultless. This is a lucky spare ride for me. Ryan [Moore] was meant to ride her, [but] obviously he was in Australia this morning and I stepped in.” He added, “The filly was very tough. She really deserved to get that Group 1. She showed there what she's all about-she really knuckled down. Fair play to George in his team for having her in tip-top shape for tonight.” With Boughey and his partner at home awaiting the birth of their first child, assistant trainer Henry Morshead was on duty and said, “Her preparation into this has been very strong and her gate-work has been good all winter, which was a concern coming from Del Mar last time [where she was withdrawn at the start]. But God she's tough, she really sticks her head down, she's a real testament to the hard work everyone puts in at home.” Morshead added, “It's hugely special and Coolmore are unbelievably straightforward to deal with. We're hugely honoured to have her in the yard this year as a five-year-old.” Pedigree Notes Last year was a momentous one for Mehmas (Ire), who broke fellow Tally-Ho Stud resident Kodiac's long-standing record for the greatest number of juvenile winners achieved in a year. Such an achievement played a role in the stallion's stud fee justifiably rising from €50,000 to €70,000 this year. The success of Believing here could set the tone for what is shaping up to be a hugely exciting season for the stallion, who has a number of top-class prospects–including Classic contenders–to look forward to. Mehmas is now internationally recognised as a top-class stallion and Believing, who justified Coolmore's 3 million gns investment at last year's Tattersalls December Mares Sale, is also another high-profile graduate from that sales company's Craven Breeze-Up Sale. She is bred on the same Mehmas-Kodiac (GB) line that has also produced Wes Acre (Ire), who has been something of a revelation in Dubai over the past few months, but could only manage eighth when stepped back up to 6f in this race. As for Believing, she is out of an unraced sister to dual Group 3-winning sprinter Miss Sally (Ire) (Danetime {Ire}).
