Based on what criteria? Surface? ROI? I would suggest on most decent KPI's Ellerslie, Te Rapa, Awapuni, Trentham and Riccarton would have been closed. But no let's sell the industry silver and close the decent tracks and clubs down and let the parasitic top 5 suck up all the resources. Rome burns Nero fiddles.
-
She could win anywhere even on a crap Rosehill track. Although it took a fair effort to do so. The facts are the Ellerslie track on KM night was unsafe. Anywhere else in NZ with a lesser meeting it would have been abandoned. I doubt if those at the coal face that you allege to have a relationship with would say any different.

I don't know what TV @the galah watches but it must be 85inch and he has binoculars because these new graphics are shyte and near impossible to read from a distance. My personal poll is now 40 against with 1 for saying they liked the colours. Well until I pointed out they were close to tangerine and blue. The font isn't readable and the contrast colours dont contrast enough to make the type font clear.

Generally the trend in racing IS to try something else. Not because of negativity but because the fundamental issues are never fixed. Ask any trainer how hard it is to be positive when you turn up to a Premier Track with your valuable horses that you've been training for months to find the track is unsafe or biased or worse the meeting is abandoned. Not to mention that you have been struggling to train that horse on your local track because it is substandard most of the time. Or the struggle to get a decent trackwork rider that understands pace and does what is instructed. Let alone trying to find a race programme to actually get a start for your horse. Then you have success when you have to race out of your grade and are then handicapped out of racing. Yep being an owner is the easy option. Hell you don't have to turn up until raceday and when the bar is open. Why don't you @TAB For Ever get up early in the morning for a week and go help out at the stable. Look, listen and find out what the those doing the hard yards are experiencing.

What lying and bullshit? I thought the complaints from the conspiracists was about the deafening silence! Afterall you said she was dead. A false backdrop is real. As for the doctored photo (not plural) - who cares? What was supposedly hidden? For you perhaps. The majority don't rightly care other than having a sincere and genuine hope that Princess Kate fully recovers from her illness. But what is this juice you talk about? Tell us now before we read it in a discarded copy of the Women's Weekly at the local Fish and Chip Shop.

Appears not. The market research I've done resoundingly says the changes are crap. Then again it has been announced that OPSM and Specsavers are now sponsoring the next tranche od novelty races.

Belclare off to Magic Millions Broodmare Sale

FFS Pete Lane if you want to have a go reactivate your account here and let rip. BOAY allows ALL opinions to be posted. You can't say that for the two forums you frequent. So what is your estimate for the sale price? -
Damn Reefton and Foxton missed out on Club of the Year!

NZTR 2024 Industry Development Day Wrap NZTR | March 28, 2024 NZTR Club of the Year Overall Award Winners Auckland Thoroughbred Racing and Whangarei Racing Club It’s no secret the New Zealand racing industry has seen an abundance of positive announcements in recent months. That momentum and excitement was carried over to NZTR’s 2024 Industry Development Day this past week. Held at Ellerslie Racecourse for the second year, an outstanding calibre of guest speakers from various sports and entertainment industries took the stage to inspire innovation and “big picture” thinking for New Zealand’s racing Clubs and Recognised Industry Organisations. NZTR CEO Bruce Sharrock opened the presentations and welcomed the group of more than 140 attendees from across the racing industry. While Clubs have a big part to play, Sharrock said it’s up to the industry as a whole to work together to ensure the racing product stands the test of time. “Our industry is at an exciting but crucial stage,” he said. “We have the ability to leave a legacy, but we must first face a few exciting challenges together. “Change has to occur across the industry with a mindset to challenge the way things are done.” Presentations soon got underway with a compelling demonstration by One NZ CEO, Jason Paris, who demonstrated the power of rebranding and repositioning using his own experience within the rebrand from Vodafone to One NZ. The importance of the customer was at the forefront of his messaging but concluded with a warning to not allow internal influences, like our own biases and experiences, to hinder success for the organisation as a whole. New Zealand entrepreneur Hamish Pinkham was next up. As the creator of New Zealand’s largest music festival, Rhythm and Vines, Pinkham provided the roadmap to what has made Rhythm and Vines a monumental success. While the event only runs for three days over New Year, the entrepreneur attributed much of the success and longevity of the festival to engaging the customer through quality content throughout the entire year. Racing can take a page from this book as a seasonal product with ample content to promote the sport outside of the main racing seasons. Entain Australia and New Zealand CEO, Dean Shannon, focused on wagering growth and ‘the big and little things’ that make the domestic industry tick. While wagering figures and statistics outlined his presentation, his core messaging was around the presentation of racing and how that can be improved to increase turnover. Presenting the racing product in the best light inspires trust from the punter which will translate into wagering and benefit the entire industry. Sponsorship was the topic of conversation for One NZ head of marketing and branding, Georgia Mahaffie. She simplified her work as part of the rebranding team from Vodafone to One NZ, into one sentence ‘a brand's job is to simplify choice.’ Throughout her presentation, she focused on sponsorship and how to use partnerships to stay at the top of the customer's mind to build loyalty. The session continued with Ian Bennett, GM of Eleven, NZTR and Auckland Thoroughbred Racing’s public relations agency. The PR executive focused on enhancing the public perception of racing before turning it over to Entain’s Chief Media Officer Chris Haigh and Chief Marketing Officer Mel Kenneday who presented fresh and exciting branding for both Trackside and TAB. Finally, the event closed with a panel of Club CEOs answering the hard-hitting questions presented by George Simon, before moving on to NZTR’s Club Awards. This year saw a revamped Awards structure where NZTR used existing data and information to assess key judging criteria over the 2023 calendar year. Entain also got behind the awards this year, providing a 25k prize fund distributed across the three classifications, Metro, Provincial, Country and an overall Club Award. The 2023 NZTR Club Awards Winners are as follows: Metropolitan - Auckland Thoroughbred Racing Provincial - Whangarei Racing Club Country - Kumara Racing Club Overall Winner - Co-winners Auckland Thoroughbred Racing and Whangarei Racing Club Additional Awards were presented to Waikato Thoroughbred Racing who excelled in leadership as well as the Club Appreciation Award being presented to Racing Taupo. Karen Houlihan and Rebecca Swords of Whangarei Racing Club were ecstatic to be recognised at a national level as a smaller provincial club. “It was good to see a provincial Club be recognised alongside a big Club like ATR.” “We will be able to make really good use of the prize fund and can’t wait to take it back to the Board and let them know.” -
Belclare off to Magic Millions Broodmare Sale

What I don't understand is why sell your best mare if you are in the breeding game? -
Yes but you are sitting three feet from the TV with your glasses on. I've done a poll and everyone hates it. Sure it is only a poll of 20 people but...
-
The new graphics are shyte. Wrong font and you have to have a big TV to read them or be Mr McGoo or sit closer. I calculate at least 3 bar leaners closer to read the "information"!

Belclare off to Magic Millions Broodmare Sale
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Actually I'll revise that. She'll probably go about $950k. Melody Belle sold for $2.6m and I wouldn't put Belclare's value near her. Anyway great to have an opinion and state it. That's open to ALL on BOAY. -
Do we really need a Hot Weather Policy?

Should send a copy to @TAB For Ever.

Maven Belle sold for $902k. I don't see her getting more than that. Maybe $600k. I think those talking $1m are dreaming. -
What's Michael Walker smoking? Imperatriz is an OZ bred!

Did you pick that up from Sundays sermon? What changes? All we've seen is borrowed money (it isn't coming from revenue) thrown at Stakes. I'll say it again that approach has been tried time and time again. If the Pearl Series (aka FAMIS) is so great why is the foal crop continuing to decline? I'll repeat tell us all what has been done to change the fundamental issues with the industry? Poor tracks, a decline in the skill and number of Jockeys, a crap handicapping system that pushes out the average horse and favours mediocrity leading to a decline in horse numbers. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THOSE ISSUES? Aside from closing good tracks for no good reason. All we have to show for it about $100m spent is three AWT tracks no trainer really wants to use and a bastardised hybrid version of a StrathAyr. Not to mention reconditioned tracks that need to be renovated AGAIN and AGAIN. Enlighten us all @TAB For Ever. Don't bother repeating how great the novelty races, the sweepstake races and the high end stake increase are.

Ok then blame the NZTR database as it doesn’t say she was registered.

Walker's big Imperatriz call | RACING.COM www.racing.com Former gun jockey Michael Walker says Imperatriz could be in the conversation as one of the best New Zealand-bred horses ever if she measures up in Saturday week's Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. The 10-time G1-winning mare will be hoping to add another elite-level win to her resume, having won the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley last start. "If she wins the TJ up there, there's no horse that's going to beat her ever," Walker said. "Even Giga Kick, she's 1-0 against him, if he comes back who knows, but right now she's the one. "She's definitely up there as one of the best Kiwis in modern times at least too, one thing I'll say is you can only race against what they put in front of you. "There's no other big wigs, particularly in sprinting ranks, in New Zealand right now. "She's done a tremendous job, the team have done an amazing job and the horse herself." Walker says the likely tempo and race structure of the TJ should suit the champion Kiwi mare to a tee. "There will be more pressure early, but then they sit up and then sprint home, which is going to really suit her because her best is when she's ridden quiet," he said. "It's definitely a lot harder that way around, she's probably better the Melbourne way, but she's good enough for sure." Probably not given the trend has been to fixed odds. I can't remember the last time I had a bet on the Tote. The biggest issue being the amount of money that suddenly appears in the pool after the horses have run 600m. I've long suspected the TAB lays off on the tote. Now if the wanted to revive the Golden Goose (The Tote) again the best thing they could do with the Tote is have real time updating and lower the % they take on each bet iiiowhich would improve prices...I think.
-
But what has fundamentally changed? The real issues are not being addressed. Throwing more and more money at stakes is just doing the same old same old and expecting a different result. As Einstein said it is insanity. Take the Pearl Series (FAMIS rebranded) - it has been around for decades but what has it done to improve things? In your own words racing is dying so obiviously bonuses aren't working either are they? Don't you see some irony in Saturdays winner of the Group 1 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes is off to the Gold Coast to be sold as a broodmare? Let alone the fact she wasn't Pearl nominated and only two of the Breeders Stakes runners were!

Group 1 winner Belclare to be offered at Magic Millions By The ANZ Bloodstock News Team Listen Fresh from her historic second win in Saturday’s New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), Belclare (Per Incanto) will be offered at the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast. The stable star for premiership-winning trainer Lisa Latta, Belclare will go under the hammer as an exciting racing and breeding prospect as part of the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft on the opening day of next month’s National Broodmare Sale. Following the six-year-old’s 1.5 length win over Town Cryer (Tavistock), Latta said: “It’s been a really nerve-racking day, considering it’s likely to be her last race for us. “The owners have been so loyal, and to go out on a winning note in this race, it couldn’t be better. An 11-time winner and earner of over NZ$980,000 from 36 starts, Belclare was bred by her part-owner David Woodhouse. “It certainly was a great win,” Woodhouse said of Saturday’s victory at Ellerslie. “The biggest thrill of my career, absolutely.” Woodhouse said there was much planning into the mating that produced his multiple Group winner, who is out of the stakes-performed winner Miss Rhythmic (O’Reilly). “Sam Williams told me way back with Per Incanto that the O’Reilly mare cross was working well. So I got Bruce Perry to find me an O’Reilly mare and he came up with Miss Rhythmic and I liked that she went back to Olga’s Pal. “We bought her and at the time Tavistock was firing and we didn’t have any luck with her first foals and the first season she was sent to Per Incanto, Belclare was the result.” Woodhouse believes Belclare will be a success as a broodmare. “She’s not a huge mare – she’s a great style of horse – strong, muscly – a typical Per Incanto, they are nicely made horses. “Belclare is a beautifully natured horse and she will look good come sale time on the Gold Coast.” The owner-breeder said it would be an emotional time for himself, and fellow connections, come sale day. “We will be on the Gold Coast and my wife said she will cry her eyes out! We have never had a horse like her – sure we’ve had some nice horses, but she’s another level. “We still have her mother, a sister at home and also a half-sister in foal to Noverre. I hope she can carry her racing form to the breeding barn.” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch was delighted by the latest addition to the catalogue, which is set to be released shortly. “Belclare is a welcome addition to what will be a remarkable catalogue,” he said. “We will have a catalogue packed with stakes-winning stars and we look forward to presenting them to an international audience.”

I'm disappointed @Brodie you are clearly showing you don't know how a book maker works. If they showed the total book value AND the price you'd have a fair idea what their liability per horse was. They are trying to make money not give it to you!

Eh? Is it only for Clubs that have racedays? Trials don't count?

eh? Foxton in on it?
