What it shows Thomarse is that you are nothing more than an idiot and a fraud. A writer of fiction. Any reasonable sane person will listen what Guerin is saying and conclude something completely different to you. Now you are also running a fine line with the statements you are making calling Opie Bosson a cheat. Guerin quite clearly expressed his opinion on the proposition of giving Jockey's the option to take a suspension or pay a fine. Now your angst and drivel should be directed at who put forward that proposition the NZTR. You know how to contact Bernie so I suggest you write to him. I'm sure he'll listen to your rants.

Caulfield on Saturday received 6mm's of irrigation early on RACE MORNING! To bring it into a safe zone. They held off because of forecast rain. In New Zealand we can't irrigate after Thursday without permission!

Guerin's comments - "verbatim" 14 December 2020 Weigh-In at approximately 38 mins in (I've shortened the video so it starts at 38min). Once again Thomarse your poetic license shows no bounds! Context: Discussing the NZTR recommendation to the RIU/JCA to impose fines instead of suspensions to alleviate Jockey shortage over summer carnivals. Guerin's position is that he thinks it is a good idea however to quote him "there is a flip side to this - obvious the bigger tim Jockey's riding in the bigger races have a better capacity to pay the fines.." Verbatim: ..."now I'll be completely honest with you. If I had a Jockey who won a race for me and copped a $1,000 fine then I'd pay it for them. And so would most owners who punt. I think that is the slight potential flaw with the system. Me going out and saying don't do anything dangerous don't knock anyone over but cross them squeeze up and I'll pay the $1,000 fine if you cop an extra day...." Guerin said that was a FLAW in the proposed system.

It was stipulated that he could apply for permission to ride at less than 57.5kg's. One must assume, as there is no evidence to the contrary, that he applied for permission and it was granted. How did he blatantly "CHEAT yet again"? He obviously weighed out at the correct weight presumable plus the margin allowance but weighed in 800gms over. Taking the allowance into consideration he may have only had two cups of water before the start assuming that the efforts of the ride on a hot day would bring him back. "Almost verbatim" - yeah right! For a start there was no Weigh-In show on December 18th - that was a Friday - the shows are on a Monday. Are you saying Guerin was quoted as saying this as an owner? He should be charged for bringing racing into disrepute. Plus you were accusing Te Akau of paying Jockey fines when you have no evidence. I'll say it again 800gms did not make a difference.
-
Fair enough but the "punters are screwed" if he phones in sick on race day. I presume in the case of Opie he would (should?) be weighed when he arrives on course and then if he can't make the minimum weight that he needs to ride on the day then he can be replaced. A serious punter would surely wait until then if their estimation of value was dependent on who rides their chosen horse. I would suggest that any serious punter would evaluate horse value in any given race based on the horse's estimated performance and notified weight not who was riding it. As for Quattro Quinta the 800gms wouldn't have made a difference to its chances.

Rule Number(s): Rule 870(3) and Breaking Horses RegulationsFollowing the running of Race 5, the Happy 65th Birthday Paul McNickle Handicap Trot 2200m, pursuant to Rule 870(3) Senior Stipendiary Steward, Mr Mulcay lodged an Information instigating a protest. Obviously given permission to ride at 56.5 kg. 800gms and a fine is the standard penalty. Do you have any precedent for suspension from weighing-in over weight? Te Akau wouldn't pay any Jockey's fines nor I imagine would any Trainer or Owner. Under Rule 332 (4) fines are deducted from riding fees. As for Opie "threatening the industry" well the finger should be pointed at NZTR/RIU/JCA. However as has been discussed before standards are been dropped to compensate for the declining numbers of available Jockey's due to suspension, disqualification and injury. With regard to "punters screwed" - I don't think 800gms would have made any difference to the result. Eilish McCall's riding on Ima Rocca Bee cost Quattro Quinta a couple of lengths on the turn. The Stipes didn't question her but blamed the horse!

What's Boyz Get pLaid and NZ First got in common?
Chief Stipe replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
Women are free to join either NZ First, BGP or start their own political party or club. That's how liberty works. No need for quotas or positive discrimination. I suggest you write to BGP and NZ First and express your concerns. -
I think you over estimate the "power" of these activists. However making subtle changes is the thin end of wedge and leads to a slippery slope. The biggest threat to racing is economics i.e. not generating enough revenue and managing costs. It doesn't help either that one code is sucking the life out of the whole industry. How does Harness or Greyhounds benefit from the $48m being invested in three All Weather Tracks for Thoroughbreds? What is the chance of being able to rent stables at Riccarton and train your horses on the new Polytrack?
-
Well here is an argument for the "Animal Rights" activists. Research done at an Australian University has calculated that 25% of the carbon emissions from animal agriculture are created by domestic cats and dogs. The largest part being the growing and processing of animals to feed those cats and dogs. Now given that it is unlikely that your average dog or cat will go vegetarian will, in the interests of limiting climate change, they be banned? The average Labrador generates 1.6 metric tons of carbon annually.

$2.90 and been as low as $2.80. Really brave (not) of the TAB but I suppose they need to get their BGP Quinella promo back somehow!

800ml's = 2 cups of water and a sandwich.

Even if that made sense nothing has changed under 4 years of a Labour Government. As I said above they dished out $100m to pay overseas creditors! Then invested in 3 AWT's without any semblance of a business case or a long term strategy! Brilliant! But what is your point - pay how in terms of what they done business wise?
-
Nope just have a good memory of history, read a lot and a pragmatic view of most things which isn't driven by ideology. You don't need to be an economist to read and understand Treasury and Reserve Bank advice - just literate! Supply and demand are basic Economics 101 that anyone with a decent High School education would understand. If you increase the money supply artificially by printing it and then it is spent on non-productive things you create inflationary tinder. The first signs of that have been the surge in property prices. Businesses weren't expected to weather the Covid-19 storm by using normal market funding but had their staff and themselves paid by the Government's printed money. Good old socialist thinking. Now all it will take is imported inflation to light that tinder and the Government has nowhere to go. They've already fired their best shot. With regard to memory it doesn't have to be that good to recall when 91 Octane petrol was $2.40 in October 2018. Currently the price is $1.92. Oil prices have risen 50% since October and 8% in the last week alone. When the world economy starts moving again this Spring those prices will quickly surpass 2018. Watch the flow on effects in New Zealand! Add to that the cost of importing all the materials for the big infrastructure projects - steel and cement for example. To build light rail to the Auckland Airport? Geez we used to be a net exporter of the highest quality cement in the world made from the highest grades of limestone and coal. Now we rely on imported crap from China which is subject to overseas prices and transport costs! Getting back to Cindy and Granty. Oh the irony of printing $100m and giving it to the racing industry! Where did the majority of that money go? In the first instance to two overseas companies. Who paid Paddy Power the overdue rent for the crap TAB software? The NZ Labour Government. Who paid the American Broadcasting company for overdue rent for the over-specced broadcasting system? Now we are paying a UK/Australian company for three AWT tracks! So Dark Beau what are Cindy and Granty going to do next? The political liability of the Minister of Finance being the Minister for Racing when the hand comes out again is immense! I guess they will just suck on another Chardonnay and to hell with the workers!
-
I think the issue was he weighed in heavier than he weighed out.
-
Well your great Cindy and Granty really stuffed up with the printing money approach as in Quantitative Easing. Both Treasurey and the Reserve Bank warned them that it would lead to an even wider asset inequality gap. So the Labour Chardonnay Socialists have actually made the poor poorer and the rich richer. Who would have thought that a Labour Government would give $100m to bail racing out of its debts and build 3 white elephants?! Inflation is already starting to track upwards. You wait until fuel and import costs start moving.

Are there signs of cracks in the Cambridge AWT training ranks?
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Godsen seems to prefer Turf to AWT going by the statistics of where he starts his horses. Also Godsen has a wide variety of surfaces to train on that would be the envy of any Australasian stable. Enable had 19 starts only three on AWT. She was beaten only 4 times with two of those losses the next race after running on an AWT. The surfaces were reported as "Standard to Slow" so obviously rain affected. She raced twice at Kempton Park (AWT) which is interesting. It is a Polytrack that cost $19 million pounds to build and recently has been costing $250k pounds a year to maintain. They also invested in an irrigation system to keep the track temperature down and to not allow it to get too hard and to prevent kick back. Apparently we have the new state of the art versions which are cheaper and don't need watering! The track was built by the same firm that is building NZ's. They stated in 2011: Large volumes of water needed to produce the ideal all-weather going necessitated investment in a state of the art irrigation system, which uses a high capacity ring main fed from a borehole with a 86 cu.m licence via powerful pumps to Briggs reels and booms. The irrigation system can put 25mm of water on the entire track in forty-eight hours, which also benefits the turf course. The surface itself was commissioned from Martin Collins Enterprises and is a new generation Polytrack mix of sixty-three percent silica sand, recycled materials and binding waxes. "Water is added to give 'life' to the surface - in direct contrast to turf, the warmer and dryer it gets, the slower the going - and to prevent 'kickback' which is uncomfortable for horses and riders. Our maintenance programme is dictated by the air temperature and moisture - the material also generates heat and, with an air temperature of 22OC, the ground temperature can be 48OC, so the aim is to get water on and keep it to a temperature of around 20OC," explains Barney. https://www.amenity.co.uk/news-media/all-weather-racing-a-success-story-at-kempton-park.html The Kempton AWT was "refurbished" only 5 years after installation: https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/kempton/media/press-releases/2016/07/kempton-park-completes-latest-all-weather-refurbishment1/ -
Are there signs of cracks in the Cambridge AWT training ranks?

"Tar And Cement" probably describes the AWT! -
I can corroborate that Brodie has been a very successful punter and is restricted because of it. As for spending time on BOAY well the same question could be asked of anyone who follows social media.

How Many Jockey's Will Sign Up For This?
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
You've contradicted yourself. On the one hand you admit bias then proclaim it to be scientific evidence. It is neither scientific nor evidence.
