  1. No he pleaded guilty. As I say all the good OZ Jockey's use that G-force on the bend to widen a gap. I'm not sure why Johnson tried to defend the gap as she was on a superior horse.
  2. She still would have won and could have carried half the field on her back given she could win an equine body builder title!
  3. Well you don't have to be a geek with a notebook to pick these things up!
  4. I found out the hard way one day that there are a number of "Senior Jockey's" that are only attained the term through longevity not skill or class. Our horse was in a Grp 2 (might have been a Grp 1) at Trentham. Finally we had a track to suit on the firm side of Good and she was on fire fitness wise. 2000m race or 2200m can't remember which but it was her distance. Jumps perfectly and gets a nice run three back on the rail. Didn't spend a penny to get there. The pace was good. With 800m to go the trainer and I in the members stand had adrenaline starting to pump through our veins. We knew that when the breaks were released about 350m up the straight as per instructions she wouldn't be beaten. So what happens at the 650m? The Jockey sets sail for home! Within 100m she's 6 lengths in front! At bloody Trentham of all places. When he made the move I said out loud - "You fucking idiot!". It might have been worse than that given the looks from the prim and proper. In 100m went from a high to being as flat as. Sure enough even though she was a tough mare who never gave up she was run down over the last 100m. The trainer asked the Jockey "Why?" The Jockey responded "She was going so well I thought I could catch them napping." The Jockey was lucky that I didn't talk to him as he wouldn't have ever had to waste again to ride light! I calculated that that one decision had cost me $80,000 in bets and largely residual value of a multiple Group winning mare. Probably cost the Syndicate over half a million!
  5. Well they forgot what was their inside vs outside. ATAAHUA DREAMTIME (L Allpress) – Inconvenienced near the 300 metres when REMARX (K Asano) shifted inwards under pressure. K Asano was advised to exercise care. ATAAHUA DREAMTIME then becoming awkwardly placed near the heels of IF YOU DANCE, which shifted in slightly.
  6. Colgan got 8 days. Perhaps he should appeal? This happens all the time in OZ and hardly raises an eyebrow! Brando looked unbalanced regardless! V Colgan (MOANA) - Admitted a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount MOANA to shift outwards near the 400 metres where there was insufficient room making contact with BRANDO which was unbalanced. After hearing submissions V Colgan was suspended by the Judicial Committee from the conclusion of racing on Saturday 23 January up to and including racing on Wednesday 10 February (8 national riding days) and in addition a fine of $1,000 was imposed.
  7. I know I tend to disagree with you often Thomass but I have to do so again. I agree that the Breeders have stuffed up our pattern of racing especially with the 2kg female allowance. The fact is the problem is deeper than just the conditions for a particular race. It is our handicapping system in general. Even if you switched those WFA's back to Handicaps you will find that Avantage would still have an advantage (nice pun eh?). The system drives the good hardened handicappers out of the game. Who wants to see Rating 80 horses carrying 50kg's winning our Premier Races? As for Avantage's win yesterday? Would have taken a bloody good horse to beat her!
  8. The big difference in NZ is the gap between the top jocks and the rest. Not only are the top ones in a very small group but the gap to the rest is significant. You don't have that issue with Metrop races in OZ. Any one of about 20 jocks you would be happy to ride your horse be it from an owner, trainer or punter perspective. In my opinion if you had assessed two horses having equal chance in a race based on your assessment of their ability/chance in relative to the field and one was ridden by a top echelon jock and the other by a non-claiming apprentice then I know which one I would choose. However you might find that the one ridden by the top jock was offering less value on the tote than the other. Then you make a judgement on how much you are willing to pay as a punter for the difference in value to have the top jock on. At the end of the day doesn't matter what the assessed value is if it doesn't return a dividend! I do find it a bit rich for people to pontificate about their particular method and to publicly state that they earn their living from essentially losing punters. I've known some very successful punters over the years and they don't seek publicity and generally do their calculations in their head or written in their racebook. They don't need an algorithm and a computer crunching years of data to pop out numbers and then look for outliers in value. Especially when that value is determined by what other's assume in the market. Personally I've found over the years that for some reason that I can't explain I'm very successful in the Spring and early Autumn especially on OZ Metrop tracks. Perhaps that's because generally the horses are wound up over there not like here where trainers use racing to get them fit. Also the tracks are more consistent and forgiving for all horses therefore they are more likely to race to their ability. Summer tracks (especially in NZ) can be so inconsistent regardless of how they are measured. The other times when I've had some success is oncourse where I will ignore racebook form initially and assess each horse in the parade ring. I'm not great company on those days I can tell you! If you asked me what I actually look for in an effort to translate that into a computer programme you would fail!
  9. Did Doris wash the dishes afterwards?
  10. Well none of them are up at the moment posting online! I imagine Waller runs a tight ship and they are all tucked up in their stables with the Alsatians and Doberman's patrolling! Oh and Gammalite didn't win $25 million!
  11. Verry Elleegant has actually won 6 Grp1's, 2 Grp2's and 1 Grp3. As I keep reminding BOAY her win at Ruakaka was the first video I loaded on the site. LOL I should remind some about what they said! "Winning a maiden at Ruakaka doesn't count for much" said one. Rowena Smyth must twinkle everytime she sees it race! https://loveracing.nz/Common/SystemTemplates/Modal/Video.aspx?v=http%3a%2f%2fwww.racingreplays.co.nz%2fmedia%2f201808%2f20180812WHAN03_BB.mp4&i=%2fCommon%2fImage.ashx%3fw%3d565%26h%3d314%26a%3d1%26o%3d1%26z%3d1%26bg%3deeeeee%26p%3dhttp%3a%2f%2fwww.racingreplays.co.nz%2fmedia%2f201808%2f20180812WHAN03_BB.jpg&r=Race 3 - NZB INSURANCE PEARL SERIES RACE&rs=1&jwsource=cl

  13. Should do a tally up what that herd of cattle has won!
  14. What a line-up! Check out the @cwallerracing stars, most in their first trial of 2021 - Funstar, Hungry Heart (wins), Kolding, Madam Rouge, Nature Strip, September Run, Star Of The Seas, Subpoenaed, Toffee Tongue & Verry Elleegant.
  15. Who says they don't? Or is this another stable gossip rumour?
  16. Jonno learnt a lot working for Chris Rutten.
  17. She got a bollocking for her ride on Brando. Lisa Allpress outrode her in that one. Danielle is bred to be good. Her old man Peter was a useful Jockey.
  18. Great ride in Bonham by Lisa Allpress. Went forward when the pace was slow without spending a penny. Had the drop on Brando by the time it got going. Congrats to Jonno and Holly too.
  19. Geez I thought that was a good tough win by Quattro Quinta but then I heard what Jamie Richards said. "We'll be pressing on with him this year as he doesn't have a lot of upside"! Doesnt say much for those behind him!
  20. Ya reckon! Had more threats of violence and legal suits than I care to remember since starting BOAY!
  21. Doing it in hopples is a skill.
  22. Oh ok so I'm better off on BOAY?
  23. Does it pay well?
  24. Considering unlike Brodie I haven't backed it yet and got restricted as a problem gambler I might just offload. It's definitely on the up.
  25. Probably would have although the metabolism of cobalt in a bovine differs to that of an equine. My understanding is that the paddock had previously had cattle in it. I'm pretty sure they weren't in there the same time. Common farming practice to move livestock around. Cattle are more adapted to mowing tall grass than horses with the latter preferring it shorter.
