  3. Give it a break please.
  4. For the uninitiated amongst us Reefton is referring to the Karaka Millions races - the 2yr old and the 3yr old races. That would fund 50 $10k maiden races.
  5. No I don't have a deep dislike for Ellerslie. I do have a dislike for the way they are amongst the favoured few. I was referring to earlier efforts to work on the track. There have been major "repairs" done before and they have never lasted. The track is fundamentally stuffed primarily due to the soil structure.
  6. Precisely. Before the race - "we are going to race forward today." After the race - "he missed the jump so stayed back." Or the Stewards ask the jockey - "why did you travel wide without cover when you could have got in closer?" Answer - "because the trainer told you that the horse was going to put forward. Unfortunately the horse wasn't good enough to get there."
  7. Thomass you are getting repetitive AGAIN! At the end of the day as Mardi has pointed out NONE of those things have much bearing on selecting a horse BEFORE it races.
  8. Just as the "Meeting Abandonment" issue is a red herring.
  9. Well Bernard will argue that "the industry" needs to upgrade the infrastructure to meet OSH and other legislative requirements. He could argue that it is a cost to "the industry". However the flaw in the argument is that clubs like Reefton, although they struggle, do get by with community help and volunteers. No doubt over the years the local sawmill or the odd farmer has dropped a pack or two of timber off at the local course. Now if Bernard is going to use NZTR funds to "assist" clubs in getting their infrastructure up to speed then "the industry" costs will increase because you don't see the likes of Te Rapa and Ellerslie members taking their suits or high heels off and getting down to the track to install new kit in the stables.
  10. But the reality is because you don't know if the change in tactic will work how can you factor that into your betting selections? I guess it provides more fodder for the mug punter to analyse.
  11. Rubbish - Gai Waterhouse trains all her horses to race handy.
  12. The only cost to the industry would be the cost of travel and accommodation to the Coast race meetings for the requisite officials on race day. I doubt you would see anyone during the rest of the year. The smaller clubs have been living off the hind tit of the cow for decades and have always maintained their own tracks. Thankfully I'd say given the massive costly cock ups done on the so called bigger club tracks. Otaki, Awapuni, Pukekohe, Ellerslie all come to mind.

  16. Trainers "experiment" all the time. It's called training a race horse. They are always looking to get the best out of their horses. Sometimes the "experiment" works sometimes it doesn't. As a punter if you can work out when then maybe you'd be better training than punting. I can't see the benefit of telling anyone what your race tactic will be. In harness they call that match fixing.

  18. I would have thought if she won 'wide without cover' would be a better form guide than not winning. Would it not?
  19. I've never understood the benefit of speed maps.
  20. Which is the real problem NOT the conditions that races are run under. I mentioned to Reefton how the class of the field that Consensus beat was nowhere near the quality of the one that we beat with Madame Shinko in 2006. You are correct that the handicapping system is one of the biggest causes of the deterioration in the quality of our fields.
  21. Apparently a jockey saying he used a cattle prod 50 years ago is a "slur on every trainer".....what a load of bollocks.
  22. Guess who: "I bought.RC so I could control what was being said about me".
  23. I will follow through that's the difference here at BOAY.
