And I sympathise with you, Jacob. Us little people are just considered collateral damage. We have no money to fight and so become easy targets. They do to us whatever takes their fancy. The Cole machine is backed by a millionaire, and that scares the crap out of them. The kennel should have been suspended immediately, not just Cole. Cole transferred all his dogs into his wife's name overnight to beat the bankruptcy rules, and they let him just keep on trucking. Lisa Cole, greyhound trainer is a big bloody lie, but as her name is on the door, the kennel has to go. And Rendle should be gone as well. Davey boy was not the only GRNZ board member who had knowledge of the substances that weren't being tested for.

There is a heap of truth in what you say. I have watched Cole use, abuse, and manipulate people young and old to achieve his goals. Shaun, straight out of school. Green as grass like all the other minors sucked into the machine. Weren't just expected to work 24/7 for FA, also expected to babysit the kids as well. And he was replaced with a very naive Andre, and the list rolls on Pip, Darcy, Luke, and on. As the kids began to mature and become more assertive, the greater the liability they became. Stand up to him and you got trashed. To those brave enough to make statements, well done. You deserve our full backing. The list of trainers helping out at the track is also long, again sucked into the spin machine. The latest lot of pumpkins following him round like sheep seem totally oblivious to the harm they are contributing to. They are that enamored by the machine they went out and brought matching hats lol. So yes Pasketti I do understand where you are coming from. These kids are now adults.

Busy week for the GRNZ. Well done to all those who had the guts to stand up and be counted.

That guy who got done for teabags got fined 2k from memory, 1 positive. This latest 4k for 3 positives for a synthetic substance which cannot be purchased in NZ is a joke. A Category 1 substance, 10-year disqualification, no fine, got argued down to just a fine. Denis got a two-year disqualification (Category 2) for something we all know he did not cause. Where is the equity? Compare the two cases and the way the verdicts were reached. When you look at the equivalent penalties across the ditch it is hard to fathom our judicial system at times. Sardines do not contain dermorphin, not unless they traveled to South America and dined on Phyllomedusa frogs.

Very valid point Aussie. Not everyone wants or can breed. And the right to choose should be equal. We do not have stand-alone breeders in NZ.
-
I'm with you on this, removing imports will not make one iota of difference to rehoming numbers. And yes, I do enjoy watching good dogs race. Well done to Robson and Pinny Mac on their Golden Chase efforts.
-
I neither breed nor import, so I can see both sides of the argument. You are making claims you cannot substantiate. Is the quota not 20 per month? The GRNZ report states 517 dogs were rehomed in 2018 and that does not include the non GRNZ registered rehomers. The breeding cap is over a 1000 per annum, these stats are readily available if you find the time to look. You don't have the figures, do you? And you never answered my question regarding ticketed NZ bred dogs.
-
Your figures aren't accurate but I'll play the game. Do you have the stats that confirm imports are "being banged on the head"? Do you have the stats that compare the mortality rate with NZ dog's bred in the same year of importation? Do you have the stats that show how many imports have been retained for breeding? Do you have the stats that show how many imports have been rehomed and how? Do you have the stats that show which trainers are banging dogs on the head across the industry? I would hazard a guess that the answer to my questions is no. And what about the ticketed NZ bred dogs? Have you got a plan for them as well?
-
The welfare issue is a ruse. It is my understanding that the $500 import fee charged subsidises rehoming in NZ. You commend Kerr, but where are the stats? Someone above made the comment that Aus is sending dogs here because it's easier to euthanise than in Australia. Put up the evidence that shows the percentage of imports being put down. Following on, if what you say is true, then the problem isn't the imports, it lies with us. Why is it easier here, we are supposed to be governed by the same set of rules? Take a good look at the rehoming stats. As a member above stated, it is quite clear which kennels are rehoming and which are not. Look at the big breeders. Do they take responsibility for the numbers they breed? And what about their lesser dogs? No, flick them off to whoever and make it someone else's problem. How is that different? What about their euthanasia stats? These breeders are allowed to churn out litter after litter, they buck the rules that are supposed to safeguard breeding bitches by continually being granted exemptions. They are puppy farmers whose business model is saturation. 240 a year doesn't even come close to the saturation numbers of the puppy farmers. The sale of thoroughbred stock to overseas buyers is the only thing that is keeping that code a float. When you start imposing tariffs there is a flow on effect. There is also room for legal challenge. Another member mentioned free trade agreements which encompass owner rights. Our whole industry is based on Australian breeding and imported semen. Take a look at the percentage of NZ sires to litters bred. On the whole, we don't support our own, which makes us a bunch of hypocrites. We are more than happy to send money to Australia for breeding straws. What is the percentage of race dogs to semen imported? How many of the progeny make it to the races, how many are rehomed, and how many fall into a hole. It makes better business sense to import one ready to run race dog than import a straw and take my chances. The only thing that has ever stopped me is the fact I can't afford to. I do not agree that this is some sort of win. Our problems lie here. Imports are not pushing trainers out, our own are.

Go in peace, rest well. Condolences to all family and friends.

A red headed trainer also made substantial claims which kicked off a previous investigation. Wonder why he never came forward? Totally gutless individual. Any closer to a court date?
-
I am reliably informed mediation is taking place to find a way forward. The trial format was again amended.
-
To my knowledge, no person got a free pass. There apparently was no case to answer or in other words a complaint made without substance.

I have read it but didn't receive it so I don't have a copy to post.

There is to be a SGM at the Wanganui track tonight at 7pm. A member has shared the agenda with me and I will be interested to hear how this plays out given recent events. From all accounts, the club could easily be described as totally dysfunctional, the shiny facade masking a significant level of discontent and resentment which appears to be fostered by board alliances and behaviour. A club cannot be successful without the full backing of its membership steered by a leader who is willing to engage in inclusive dialogue. Hopefully, tonight's meeting will herald positive change.

I like the idea.

Effectively a TMO.

What are the chances of a successful applicant being chosen from this forum or any greyhound forum for that matter? What are the chances of getting an interview after raising industry concerns? What are the chances of affecting positive change via such an appointment?
-
Under our rules, the dogs cannot be transferred to a family member to train.

Yankiwi Do you still have all the photos? If so can you post them?
-
Very sad. A lovely lady who was always willing to give aid to anyone.

I don't know who mentioned Max and family, but agree that was below the belt. Most in the CD have seen all the photos, there is no doubt who the people in the photos are. All except Cole exited the kennels at the same time, that was at least 5 staff leaving before they could be replaced. That smacks of sinking ship syndrome. It is disappointing that two key witnesses both former employees withdrew their statements to protect their current positions. Total respect for "That Girl", I hope you get your day in court. We have all paid a high price for the lack of action from the RIU. The GRNZ's position throughout has been pitiful and I am surprised that the GA has not intervened as we and all Australian states are bound by the same set of rules. Precedents already existed at the time SPCA investigation commenced. The GRNZ has the power to revoke any license, including breeding licenses. To date, they have done nothing. If charges are brought by the GRNZ and guilt is proven, the money earned by the kennel since the SPCA investigation began will have been earned illegally. There will be no compensation to any trainer who was entitled to those stakes. No compensation to any trainer who was balloted. The machine just rolls on, broods continue pumping out. Reading this thread I am reminded by a statement made by the exalted one: " I am going to push all you trainers off a cliff!". What a truly wonderful ambassador we have.

Jason, I see your confused face. Grey2K. Fred has commented on this particular thread for a reason. Fred isn't a Kiwi. Fred found this page because Fred employs permanent staff to search the internet looking for anything that can be used against greyhound racing. He then engages with participants to solicit comment that suits his purpose. Fred does not care that the vast majority of participants do no wrong. Fred wants to shut us all down. Fred believes we are all cruel, nasty people. It sux to be Fred.
-
Fred doesn't care. Fred and his friends have always had an agenda, ending greyhound racing across the world. As a group, they have never used their wealth to save any dogs, build shelters, aid shelters in any form. Fred's goal is to fleece the general public of as much cash as possible, and we are talking millions. They have been under investigation for fraud and will go to great lengths to spread lies. They have long been the driving force behind closing down greyhound racing in the USA. They are besties with the likes of PETA, and their leader Dorstop is a nut job. Be very careful, they will use any comment you make against you. http://grey2klies.blogspot.com/

The dog was owned by a syndicate, not Marcie Flipp. I caught him once, never happened again. I have caught many, many dogs for as many trainers, the only one ever who tried to rip my face off was Tom.
