    Pay Back

Yes it has and the idea has great merit. This is not just a significant fiasco for the sport but also a political football for the government. Any monies earned by L Cole and B Cole should be returned if found guilty. At the very least any award the kennel has received during the investigation should be stripped. That's what happens in the real world. Sir Ron Brierley will be strpped of his knighthood if found guilty. As he should.

Good morning Bassa. There is one critical point that many like you are missing. It doesn't matter who the accomplices in the photos are. Sam, Ivan, Tyla, Craig, Bill, Ben, or the flower pot men. If Brendan is found guilty the critical point is, ALL who worked at the property are also complicit. They are complicit because they knew what was happening, they are complicit because they kept quiet, they are complicit because they excepted payment for their silence, and they are complicit because they followed the kennel doctrine, "Winning is everything". All are complicit. The "dreamers" are those who choose to believe they are not. The "dreamers" are those who believe this will all go away. Many have come here to denounce the investigation, the charges, the impending trial. ALL who do so have a personal association with the kennel and if Brendon is found guilty, ALL will by that association share guilt in some form. Everyone who works for, races with, breeds with, takes dogs from, talks up, or helps out, supports the biggest lie of all due to their self-interest. And that Bassa is a fact. Who is the trainer Bassa? Brendan is the only person charged because he probably was the only person named in the original complaint. It is extremely naive to believe further complaints would not follow. If guilt is proven, then further complaints are a given. Any person who withdrew statements made to the media or the SPCA may find themselves compelled to give evidence via subpoena. Any person who believes their withdrawal distances themself from scrutiny is a "dreamer".

They guy outside the bullring is not Howe or Lozell.

Yes that is possible, trainer in name only working for a wage. Business as usual but via remote control. In this sport it appears to be quite easy to circumvent (deceive; outwit). Frankly, the GRNZ have poorly managed this situation, rules should have been put in place to prevent this type of deception. The Aussies would not be impressed with their weak wristed approach, I know I''m not. Look at the Dennis scenario, how did that work out?

Yes as are the owners who continue to race with him. An innocent person would be looking to clear his name as quickly as possible. If found guilty under GRNZ rules the licenced trainer involved is ultimately responsible and her licence can be revoked. A training licence cannot be transferred to a family member.

Another shinning example of a disgusting human being. Neither option is humane. Shut the industry down!

Incorrect, they have been adjourments. The judge made it clear to the defense that no more delays would be tolerated. The callover was originally scheduled for September but did not proceed as the defense lawyer delayed citing that he would be out of country on that date. A callover's purpose is to deal with procedural issues and make sure the case is ready to proceed to trial. A judge conducts the jury trial callover and once satisfied the case is ready to proceed, sets the trial date. A callover is the final step before the trial begins.

Well that is good news. Now that all procedual matters have been dealt with all that is required is jury selection on the 28th of February. Those who withdrew their official statements will hopefully be subpoenaed along with all past and present staff.
  9. When the original owner of this moniker left the building for personal reasons, I asked to take over the vacated seat. I liked the handle and had issues I wanted to raise as my brief time in the industry left a sour taste. My acrimony was due to specific mindsets which sort to blame or ignore rather than remedy, a very backward view in my mind. Thanks to a few enlightened souls one particular gripe has been dealt with on race day in the CD. I believe the GRNZ needs to take further steps with this particular scenario. Well done to those responsible for the positive change. As a now member of the public, I have strong views surrounding welfare, fairness, equity, and sustainability. The TAB saturation model is flawed, a similar model employed by rugby union has created a crisis that will see a major rethink. Regional rugby is dying, the seats are empty. In the regions' clubs are now struggling to field youth teams as well as "A" grade teams. Competition for the discretionary dollar is fierce. If I were a teenager in today's world, my leisure options are limitless. Why use rugby as a comparison you may ask? Well back in the days when the phrase "Rugby, Racing, and Beer" was coined, those three options were pretty much all that existed. Pubs all over the country have now closed their doors, and many more will follow. The world has moved on and old traditions are dying. Obesity and related diseases rise as the population drowns in technology. As a youngster touring overseas bands were rare, now they are a weekly event. Example: When the Beatles landed in NZ, the waiting crowd numbered in the thousands. A day in our history I will not forget. We have become a selfish nation, "All for one, one for all" has become "All for me, none for you". The "Why should I care, not my problem" brigade grows daily. A theme not lost in some posts within these threads. That attitude will kill the planet faster than global warming, it will all so harm the integrity of your sport. More damage has been done by the industry's lack of action rather than those who oppose it. The saving grace is that there are those working hard for change. I commend those people. Rangatira, I agree with your response to Joy's statement, "If everyone just kept to themselves". Your reply; "is this a form of turning a blind eye joy ?" I believe it is. I may not always agree with what Yankiwi posts, but the truth is that some off the discrepancies exposed are felt by participants. The growing groundswell of disharmony is fuelled by what appears to be inconsistencies in penalty among other gripes. Fail to pay a fine, lose your licence, ignore a judicial order, business as usual. The fairness of that fails me. Mr. Potts. Your response to Yankiwi was disgusting. If you are indicative of industry members, then maybe the industry should close? The original post objected to was about the muzzle rule. On page 18 of this year's annual report, there is a photo of a handler exiting the track in breach of the very rule raised. Any person warned or fined for breach of that same ruled would feel hard down by. You should apologise. The upcoming court saga will devastate many through no fault of their own. To those who put themselves above the industry, my advice is to change or be damned.
  10. You can share what you like, it doesn't worry me. If you have a photo of me having sex in public, my wife would love to see it. That would require a functioning prostate. Just be aware that the rules above would not apply to your action. You must be excited about becoming eligible to sit your learner's licence next birthday.
  11. The correct information is as follows: 1. You did not give permission, you simply did not object. 2. The photographer does not need your permission in a public space. 3. You have the right to to object at the time but that is as far as it goes. 4. A public space is any space that can be accessed by the public. 5. There are specific rules in law around privacy and private spaces. 6. You cannot take photos or film in a courtroom without judicial approval. 7. Where legal copyright exists the owner of the photo or film can take legal action. Usually only applies to another party using a photo for commercial gain. Not all challenges are successful. 8. You may take legal action against an entity who uses your image without permission and knowledge for commercial gain. Not all challenges are successful. 9. The media including paparazzi would not exist if legal permission was necessary. CCTV would not exist. 10. Once a photo is posted online there is very little that can be done to remedy a perceived wrong. There are exceptions which this photo does not meet. Suggestion: Stay off the podium and Trackside.
  12. I think he may be referring to: 47.10 A Greyhound must at all times whilst on the Racecourse wear a Muzzle acceptable to the Stewards.
  13. As I remember Holden's time with GR was extremely short. From memory he did not see the year out. Nice pay cheque though. Good question, who currently sits on the board post AGM and annual report. Would also like to hear views regqrding the report.
  14. I have no idea who John is? My post was about TB management not greyhound racing. And apart from owning and racing one greyhound and adopting 4 others, I have never held a professional position in that sport. Never been involved in training.
  15. Radical Thinking. All the smaller TB trainers I have associated with over the years have gone and not because they lacked talent. Many went on to work for larger operations, some headed to Australia. Two are still employed as foremen here. If it weren't for exports many more would have gone with them. Exports have seen the standard of racing talent decline in NZ. Melody Belle's few and far between. I have wagered on course at most North Island tracks and had a great time doing so, but the sheer number of clubs and tracks throughout the country was not sustainable. The halcyon days of racing are long gone. Racing authorities ignored the trends that would have been glaringly obvious to financial analysts. Back in the 70's and 80's competition for the discretionary dollar was very limited. Social events were few and far between. The races were family events. Mum, Dad, and the kids were regulars on a Saturday. These days Mum and Dad work six days a week. Saturday is no longer a day off for a good proportion of the workforce. When the working week changed, racing should have changed with it moving Saturday racing to Sunday. In business, the market is constantly changing. Those who thrive adapt, those who fail don't. I can give you a list of reasons why racing has reached this point. Sports across the country are also suffering for many of the reasons racing is failing. NZ Rugby is feeling the effects of over-saturation. Why pay a ridiculous amount of money to go watch a match live, when you get unlimited choice and the best seat in town at home in front of the telly? This is my opinion for what it's worth. Historically clubs large and small spent far to much time fighting against each other. Heads in the sand in regard to the future and financial sustainability. When the hay days began to fade, consolidation would have been the prudent way forward. I know some larger clubs were opposed, not our problem mentality. It fast became everyone's problem which has to lead to the present situation. Track closures were inevitable. The introduction of LOTTO, scratchies, pokies, bricks, and mortar and online casinos, sports betting, and access to Australian bookies and betting agencies has severely diminished racing's market share. It will require radical thinking to turn racing around, BUT that will only prolong the inevitable.
  16. Torrential rain over three days. The area (Awapuni) is prone to flooding. Best guess is the tractor could not groom the track to a safe standard if it was able to get on the track at all. Educated guess based on past abandonments.
  17. "I was told this by the women in my post at wanganui". In reply to that I will ask if what you say is true, please explain why the person making this claim did not go to the authorities and lay an official complaint? Why no investigation and charges? Big statement based on hearsay. All that happens when you do this is you harm the people who least deserve it. And, it is an offense under the rules to fail to report an action which is in breach of the rules of greyhound racing. This is appalling behaviour.
  18. You are very free with your disparaging comments Crosscodes. The problem I have with that is there is usually nothing to back it up. Prior to the welfare rule changes your remark "what happens to the majority of his dogs off track?" could have applied to a good percentage of dogs raced across the country. The numbers rehomed vs the numbers whelped per year was severely out of kilter. In fact until the Hansen report was released "missing" seemed to be the norm. So I wouldn't be to quick with your quips. The Messara report went further and in depth. As a result of both reports sweeping changes were introduced, well done to the governing body on this. Now anyone who breaches the new reforms should be gone. If you have the time you can actually track trainers dogs with reasonable accuracy, the anti's sure do. Having done so myself I believe there is no evidence to back your insinuation above. All trainers now have a very clear directive, anyone in breach of the new code should be dealt with severly. It is pointless proferring innuendo especially when you haven't even bothered to verify the facts. Flippant remarks about shabby dogs, and dogs being taken off trainers are uncalled for and abusive. If you have actual evidence of wrong doing, please share it with the appropriate authorites.
  19. Firstly well done to Angela Turnwald and Paul Freeman. 6 dogs travelled for 1 miss, a 2.4L 4th in the cup from a veteran, 2 placings, and 2 distance winners. Not a bad effort from their shabby looking dogs Crosscodes. Jared Udy and Denise Cottam an outstanding effort! 3 dogs travelled for a miss, a place, and the Galaxy trophy. Very much deserved from this humble duo! Steve Clark, 1 travelled and one Christchurch Casino New Zealand Greyhound Cup goes north. Steve adds his name to the cup for a second time. Outstanding effort from 3 of the 4 travelling trainers. The trip is by no means an easy one, the risks numerous. Well done also to all the other winners on the night.

    Gommans/Thrilling

She owns them and can race them when she see's fit.
  21. And well done to the Australian authorities!
  22. Totally agree! The sand divers are complicit. The model is flawed, the people being battered are those they should be doing their darndest to retain. They hold up the country's (pseudo) leading trainer as some sort of exemplary model for all others to aspire to. Her current status is the result of her husband's bankruptcy, nothing more. It's all a massive lie. Had the governing body acted back then and suspended Cole as per the rules at the time, there probably would not have been live baiting proceedings pending now. I feel deeply for all those in the CD affected by this farce.
  23. So that's what the country's leading trainer looks like. I must say kudos to her for being able to maintain a fultime teaching position while running a training operation of such size. She looks remarkbly rested for someone carrying such a heavy workload.
  24. My apologies for my incorrect assumption. You are correct as to public feeling around live baiting and culling, as a member of the general population I would support the abolition of the sport if both are still widely practiced. Culling and baiting are two words that would end the sport. Life after racing is also a must if public licence is to be retained. Breeding and adoption must tally, anything else is unacceptable. The dairying industry is in crisis presently, major changes are coming, grehound racing is not immune. We support the industries varied welfare iniatives but they need to go further when looking at penalties and puppy farming. Wet bus tickets are just that. I may not have your experience in the sport but I have followed greyhound racing since it became a totalisator option. I have witnessed the changes along the way. Racing generally is losing ground. Sports betting will become the country's number one preferred bet option. I do agree the writing is on the wall, but with the right guidance it is salvageable. However, finding people with guts and vision is easier said than done.
  25. My wife and I have adopted 4 ex-racers who were trained by 4 separate trainers. We cannot fault the care and effort that went into our dogs' training before retirement. Three dogs were adopted from 3 different rehoming agencies, the fourth we part-owned and raced. The majority of our friends have also adopted ex-racers and we belong to several ex-racer groups and forums. We have visited trainers' properties and facilities and have never seen any signs of mistreatment or substandard accommodation. We are no longer part of the industry due to a governance grievance. My wife and I follow the rehoming pages and can say with confidence that the majority of trainers do right by their dogs at retirement however soon that comes. I am disappointed to read the above as it unfairly casts aspersions on all it's participants while making sweeping unsubstantiated statements regarding live baiting. I can only assume the post was penned in malice as a result of a personal grievance. I do not know that situation or the circumstances thereof. Our time in the industry was short but one thing we do agree with is that a few are responsible for the majority of greys bred and therein lies the problem. Whoever allowed the few to dominate failed to see the harm that the model will bring. I will speak specifically about the CD now. One trainer is taking the bulk of stakes which means the majority of trainers in that area are struggling to make ends meet. So what you might say, and that attitude is exactly the sentiment that has seen industry detractor numbers grow. That deficit could easily create welfare issues and discord. At a time when all should be working together, internal disharmony could easily derail the good that has been done. We watched the recent awards speeches and were horrified by that given in the absence of the country's leading trainer. Question for you all, how many should one trainer be allowed to breed in pursuit of that one dog that could compete against the Aussies? 800? 1000? Right at this moment can't even beat the Kiwis.
