  1. Newmarket, if I bet $10k and collect 12k, that means that some other punter/s bet 10k and collect $6k. That punter/s losses of 4k are then roughly split between my profit and the TAB's gross revenue. Not a red cent of my turnover has gone to the TAB or NZ Racing. I'm not sure that I can make that any clearer. Did you and John Allen have the same math's teacher. He also thinks that punters will suddenly be willing to lose more if they have more betting options. How stupid is that? And how is it going?
  2. That looks like an "if" to me "but" you haven't answered the question.
  3. You can't be serious Newmarket. If I receive (on average) $12,000 for every $10,000 of turnover I do. What slice do the TAB get from that?
  4. Exactly. Explain that to John Allen and co in some way they can understand. Does it really matter if they lose that budget with 100 winners or 500? I suspect the result will be the same and it won't affect what they choose to lose.
  5. I'd love to know DB. I'd like to watch it. Couldn't agree more. The whole world of high performance is based on these principles, especially measurement, being error-centric and deliberate practice to remedy the errors.
  6. The first race meeting I went to was an Amberley RC equalisator meeting. I went home (we lived next door) with half a crown, was hooked, and gave a lot of my life to the TR breeding and racing game. Learned a lot of skills from builder volunteers there building stands etc. I no longer have that interest thanks to the powers that be. That said, I'd quite likely still rock up at Reefton or Wairoa the night before the races for a beer and some whitebait or crays. Probably with a horse going round the next day for a 1k sweep. Time to leave the 10 or 12 favoured clubs and tracks to stand on their own 4 legs and put some heart back in the game. I doubt I'll ever race even a share of one at those places. Just re-read a personal hand written letter received from the president of the Wairoa club following the last time I raced one there. Different world.
  7. Both words are accurate descriptors but need an adjective probably starting with "F" and ending with "G" in front of them. We have seen the beginning of the end and now are about to witness the ending of it. For me, I think that if dates are taken from clubs like Reefton and Wairoa to race on their own courses, they should refuse to race elsewhere, sit tight and deploy their community resources in their communities in the mean time, perhaps consider running a picnic non-TAB meeting (since they don't get any of the TAB funds they generate anyway), and watch the above mentioned end.
  8. They've completely f&*ked themselves and NZ racing at the same time. Brilliant! Won't even have a sports bet there anymore except where they've farked up the odds as they commonly do. It's a wonder sports betting makes any profit at all. Watch the NBA markets for example. I thought this crapsite was supposed to remedy that by automating the updates!
  9. Yeahh but time from start to finish doesn't mean much to some as far as I can make out. Personally, I don't care if it's CWJ, Lester Piggott or Bill Shoemaker. I'll take the hard facts over their comments every time.
  10. If you rely on the advice and comments and other hearsay of the likes of jockeys and trainers you will end up in the losing punters bin for sure. That's what Thommo does.
  11. I've ridden a few gallops with CWJ in my time. I do not question his judgement for a moment. I admire it. That does not change my assessment of a horse's performance against their expected performance regardless of track condition.
  12. Isn't the proof of the pudding an assessment of her performance yesterday relative to other horses cf. her performance against those same horses or similar on different track surfaces?
  13. Does it really make sense that I can say buy a piece of artwork for 10k and sell it 2 years later for 100k and pay no tax when some other poor bugger has done 2 years of hard graft for the same 90k earnings but has to pay tax on it? I agree with mardigras about GST. Why should I have to pay income tax on what I earn, then have to pay another 15% when I spend those earnings?
  14. It says it was sent to the senior leadership team?
  15. Unfortunately, it seems to portray an attitude not far removed from that which was portrayed in the first road show promoting these same, now failed, strategies that were supposed to generate $50m a year. Any questions or challenges, especially from a wagering perspective were met with disdain and a lack of any sound evidence or numbers to support the strategies.
  16. Yep, had 20c in mine for yonks to watch. Probably since about the 2014 Melbourne Cup
  17. Definitely. Them's the rules. Can't be paid to anyone else. Subject to Rule 505A, NZTR, on behalf of a Club, shall pay to a Trainer a sum of money, being (as set out in Rule 503(2)) 10% of the gross stakes (exclusive of trophies, prizes and the value of any awards or rights)
  18. Why are they continuing? Sounds like it's not safe. If one breaks down and brings down half the field, what then? How come they even started racing on it in the first place?
  19. It would be about 10.5% if you exclude NH races. Still nowhere close to 15% and NZ includes jumping races highweights etc. in their calculation.
  20. Was that last season? Similar numbers to 2016. About 4.5%. A bit less than NZ.
  21. Someone else may have more accurate or recent data?
  22. I stand to be corrected but I think you are mistaken Fred. The NZ Pattern committee aim is about 5% Group and Listed races and it hovers around there. The latest figures I have for Ireland are 2016. 120 Group and Listed races from 2577 total races. 4.65%.
  23. I can. They are about the same.

  25. Yes, Weasel, but Thommo thinks that proves the blinkers made her run faster even though he insists we should consider wide without cover/gave up/etc
