  1. As I said, you can call it what you like or not. I've run spelling operations where horses came from trainers with instructions for the "spell" along the lines of 2 weeks completely off. Then a 1 1/2 mile canter 3 times a week finished off with a furlong of 3/4 every week or so. I can certainly remember examples of those horses winning fresh up at 1 1/2 miles within 8 weeks of going back into full work.
  2. Really? I know a fair few "spelling" in the lockdown period that were in light work. I suppose you don't have to call that spelling if you don't want to but that was my point.
  3. Maybe the bet should be effective from July 4th?
  4. Suppose it depends what you consider a spell from full training. Whether that means no work or can include light work.
  5. t'll have blinkers on and be on the lead so it doesn't get too far ahead.
  6. Well I told him he needs to give me at least 3 figure odds because of that, the 60/1 ratio of horses on the books and the fact that I don't have a trainer's licence. No response yet.
  7. Yep. And if it's far enough in front won't matter if it's fieldshy.
  8. I did get the sense from some sources that NZTR couldn't say anything about what they did or didn't know outside of what was officially released.
  9. It was one of the slowest Arc's in history though maybe not quite a Heavy 93.
  10. He actually beat a nice horse in the Arc the year before called Balmerino which from memory had won his previous start fresh up for John Dunlop in the Valdoe Stakes at Goodwood over 2000m.
  11. Yep. Probably won't even gallop in company. Maybe with my lab on the beach.
  12. I agree Reefton but I've taken the extra 25 a week for warming (it's half a bottle of Scotch that Winnie won't get), Also, the wage subsidy and the interest free 10k is on the way. Not sure what I'll do with that yet. Maybe buy a racehorse, though I've got to pay it back so that may not be such a good idea.
  13. Exactly. And they are now looking at orienting advantaged assistance to viable businesses that might reasonably be expected to ba able to pay back the $s. Rightly so IMO.
  14. It's a long time ago, and we aren't all Vincent, but I remember watching Alleged win the Prix du Prince D'Orange at Longchamps, breaking the course record for 10 furlongs after being off all summer with sore shins and a virus. Had one more start that season to win the Arc for the second time. Don't think he had an official jumpout or trial but may have run in a couple of Derbys on the gallops at Ballydoyle.
  15. That's like what we are getting. Don't ask questions cos we won't answer them anyway. Who are you an apologist for in particular Greg?
  16. You'll have to explain. I thought I was quite consistent. Thanks.
  17. What undermining? Asking questions that should and hopefully could be answered is not undermining. Not answering the questions is what is undermining and that is primarily the Minister, RITA and NZTR CEOs and their boards' doing.
  18. Yes. But a brief answer that RITA won't give us that information would have done. Of course, how NZTR could be making the decisions they are without it is another question.
  19. Probably hard to get the necessary massaging with the social distancing requirements. I did ask Saundry to comment the other day but either the question never got to him or he chose not to answer it. From my email to Mary Burgess. What is your understanding of RITA’s current financial status? They have not released their half-year report. Any idea why and when that might emerge?
  20. And the programme. Hard to spend a lot of time and money working horses till we know that.
  21. What? Eliminating COVID-19? Getting to second base - level 2?
  22. I don't see Dummy or Wally on the guest list. Dummy run a good idea though. You going? I wonder what's on the menu.
  23. If they still have it.
  24. That also seems to have been a ridiculous decision because it means they can't make any of the employees that they received the subsidy for redundant during the 12 week period. It also appears that the tackle has knocked them unconscious because they don't seem to be able to speak.
