  1. No worries NM - can take an admirable cut and still exceed my current income. Wish me luck. Might see some of you at Karaka (Book 1) next year. Should be loaded by then .... ?
  2. .... you are probably stoatily right there Weez .... reminds me of the band playing merrily on while the Titanic succumbed to the deep ....
  3. Beau I expect you are probably right - but if they ban whips they might have to up the ante (in terms of detection and penalties) when it comes to the use of things like jiggers .... I could imagine that sort of disgusting practice increasing if whips were banned ...
  4. Ooooh Musty .... didn't see it ... but surely someone here must've My-Skied it .... It would be interesting to know what constitutes "inadvisable" - I'd be fascinated to know where the stipes draw the line on that big grey continuum which has free speech at one end and slander - breach of racing rules - hurt feelings/egos at the other .....
  5. Answer to your question MM is yes. For a long time I have noted the lack of accuracy in that database and the delay in registering changes which I know to have taken place ... I am not familair with the obligations of the trainers or NZTR in this regard. And while it's not directly related I can't help but contrast this with the rather firm approach of the officials towards such things as mare returns - deadlines set and signficant payments demanded eg. to register the birth of the long awaited foal which then has to be destroyed at birth ...
  6. Goodness me. It must be quite the org chart when you pop all that up on the old whiteboard .... who knew there was so much "stuff" to "generally manage". But I guess it's a good way to justify a swag of huge salaries when all the divisions are divided again and again ... with every imaginable portion requiring a general manager .... (I am thinking of applying for a job my spies have told ne could be imminent however ... general manager of the general managers ... wish me luck peops .. I think it could be good for BOAY to have someone on the inside..... ? )
  7. ... while of course I can't be sure of whom you speak MM .... my general observation is that some are wont to front frequently and flamboyantly when prevailing conditions are inclined to flatter ... but when the going gets tough - our fair weather friends have been known to become faint hearted and shy .....
  8. I'm prepared to believe it in the absence of evidence to the contrary .... 14 is 76 less than 90 .... ?
  9. ? (was actually looking for a blushing face emoji ...). Thanks Weasel - I will accept the compliment with grace as it means something, coming from a mighty mustelid like yrself.. I shall miss our occasional exchanges if CS shuts the door ....?
  10. BOAY stay or go? Completely up to you CS. I like it better than any other racing forum. And while there's a suggestion in this thread that the other channel has been cleansed now and once more become habitable by good and reasonable people - I would probably take a bit more persuading (and want to see a lotmore evidence) before I jumped back into those waters. But you are the one doing the work CS - so as I see it - it's your call, not mine. PS: reading that you and Hesi have fallen out is disappointing and sadly, reminds me of some other place .... remember - life is short fellas - and you'd be amazed how much stuff can be sorted out by a private chat - in person - in private - over a cup of tea or a beer. Especially if you both take respect to the table and egos are left at the door. All the best. J.
  11. Sometimes you just wanna scream. We seem to have some hell bent on destroying, from within, any reputation or integrity that the industry manages to establish. Who needs enemies from outside when we've got insiders (some quite high profile) doing what they do .... (another thread on here relates to an individual this applies to in spades ....)
  12. The invoices for all my horses (racing & breeding) live in a dusty old folder. And naturally some are electronic these days so no paper involved. I am nowhere near the Equinox league of course but even so - I'm too terrified to ever disturb that dusty folder and start adding up numbers ....
  13. Still beautiful ! Best of luck. J
  14. Using it how? On their own heads? On their horses' tails? All over their horses? Or perhaps it was dispensed via the troughs for the benefit of a visiting dairy herd ...?
  15. Two thoughts: 1. Lots of people start off a bit ordinary in a new role but improve with experience? (maybe we should give them a chance to settle in/develop their skills ...) 2. I don't know their salaries but could it also be a case of "pay peanuts - get ......."? I don't watch much TV trackside so not best placed to comment - what I do watch is muted or fast-forwarded through the presenters - I want to watch the horses pre-race and the race. And that's about it for me.
  16. Missed seeing this (busy at the salt mines so I can fed the equine family ...) - but saw this combo had a win today at Te Aroha. A little bit nostalgic to see these two combine in the winner's circle once more .... remember they were a formidable combination some years back .... Sam has been a brave, talented and durable rider - has not chased rids all over the place for many years now with her family commitments but still has her share of success nevertheless. Good luck to you both. J.

  17. Thanks for this Weasel. I confess I was hoping we could collectively have done better but I am very happy to have contributed - wish her all the best - and thank you for organising it. All the best, Jess.
  18. And that's their right to do so. The thing I object to is publication of such disingenuous dross under the guise of journalism. If The Herald wants to indulge Te Akau with gratis advertising they are free to do so. Just a pity they don't stick a "promotional" tag to it - so the information in the article can be atrributed the credibility (or lack thereof) it's due. Or indeed - so that people can make an informed choice whether or not to even read it. A bit of transparency if you will ....
  19. Thanks. Hard to argue with any of that Freda. Something to bear in mind would be that the adjudicator in such tribunals is unlikely to know much about horses or the central issues - other than contracts. So that person probably had no idea how silly it sounds to most people that an individual who has bred and reared (if that's the case) a horse through to maturity had no idea it was a windsucker. Let alone the significance of windsucking and obligations on vendors to declare such a vice. Do you know whether disputes tribunals are public and whether the outcomes are published? As I've said - I respect your discretion Freda but I am now interested in who these individuals are. I would definitely not want to do business under any circumstances with either person.
  20. Ahhh. Makes more and more sense my Mustelid mate. A senior business reporter who may have little or no knowledge of the industry would have been ripe for the picking. The big guy would have been winking furiously and rubbing his hands together at the mere prospect of such a hapless victim ...
  21. You might be thinking of Samantha, Fred. But perhaps Andrea is an antipodean relative?
  22. Ahhh. Maybe. But don't hold your breath. You can do anything with numbers - and frequently people do. Have you heard the old idiom "Lies, damned lies & statistics" - was it Disraeli who said it? (I stand to be corrected). I have been surprised before when watching events at Karaka, to then read the glowing and positive report at the end of the day on how it stacked up. Sometimes I wondered if their media person and I had been watching the same sale ... ?
  23. Interesting outcome. And without being at the hearing perhaps no-one can say for sure whether it was also a just outcome. Thanks for the update Freda - and for sharing the story in the dignified and discreet way you did. Perhaps as a result, some of us have had the benefit of learning something vicariously. Learning it the easy way - not the hard way like these people unfortunately did. All the best, J.
  24. Some people are simply very very .... oily. ?
  25. Looks like an infomercial to me. Or should that be an advertorial. Didn't look like a balanced piece of journalism to me - but that is just one person's opinion. Who is Andrea Fox?
