You're very lucky then, I lived in a room 3m x 3m with him for 3 and half years, 5 words, ''turn the television off now.'' MRC, still riding work on the Gold Coast, and driving floats?.......go figure. 1
Special Agent
I don't know about photoshopping, trolling and the like but, I agree with a lot of what Thomass is stating about incorrect whip use and rules for same. Funny, I was having a conversation this week about how Lisa Allpress regularly flanks her mounts. Even riders with short arms can adapt their own style to not do that though. If what you say is correct, what a strange occurrence for the RIU to say the vets were too busy to check for welts. Too busy doing what, apart from vet duties?

It was a screen shot straight off the replay.. The Adjudicative Committee "The Wellington Steeplechase is a Prestige Jumping Race, and a pinnacle of the jumping calendar. It was observed that Mr Fannin employed the whip in a manner that exceeded shoulder height. Such a technique amplifies the force applied and is considered an unacceptable manner of whip use. In an Industry that places great emphasis on horse welfare, actions like these cannot be condoned. Penalties for whip use violations must serve as both a deterrent and a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated. The Adjudicative Committee firmly believes that any penalties imposed, should emphasise the significance of protecting horse welfare and promoting responsible conduct." In this race the Veterinary was attending to a horse who was euthanised... I would've thought though that Stewards have the experience to adjudge 'welts' and/or take a photo without having the vet tell them "it hurt" The RIB wouldn't answer the question "are horses routinely inspected after jockeys are guilty of 'over the shoulder' strikes"

That is a good enough reason to not inspect whip site/s for welts immediately. Welts can often still be seen the next day but, apparently may not be visible straight away. Thomass
Yes it is..BUT I'm heavily believing there is no inspection process in place (especially after over the shoulder use ) for either welts or the use of the edge of the flap... ...in 20 years of the RIB there's NEVER been an inspection let alone a charge for welts And then there's HK...a cesspit of misery for some horses. Their whip abuse includes allowing the 'pull through' method from one side to the other as evidenced in the HK Derby 3rd placegetter, feet high up to get as much power as possble...and the stinging contact into the flank below the saddle cloth
