Chief Stipe
Flicking between channels to avoid the studio segues I noticed that Trackside 1 has considerably better picture quality than Trackside Premier. I suspect Trackside Premier is being streamed and after a much lower definition. As anyone else noticed a difference?
curious
Definitely. Very poor for our biggest race days. Almost unwatchable.
mikeynz
The Trackside Premier channel is on TVNZ, and being played through the duke2 channel, and it's not in high definition, 504 through the sky box, tomorrow's race is on TV1, I note it's not in high definition, I still got old TV and will continue to so until it don't go no more, I find picture fine but might be different for those with large screens. There is a link between TVNZ and the network provider for Trackside which is Spark. Trackside 1 and 2 are broadcast through SKY aren't they? I suspect TVNZ and Spark are compromising on bandwidth. Typical Spark.
mikeynz
Trackside 1 and 2 are also on freeview uhf in high definition but I note the duke channel is screening a NFL match shortly which ain't in high definition but some programme's on Duke one are in high definition, Dukes second channel appears not to be so it's probably correct the feed for TVNZ s a stream and TVNZ is moving to a more app based setup, it may well be that the stream is better quality than perhaps the TV but as usual many have issues streaming for various reasons. Chief Stipe
The Duke channel is owned by TVNZ. I must check if the definition quality is better going through the TVNZ app on a Smart TV. However you then get into issues with delays and over time you can get quite a bit behind real time. Which is a hassle for those who like to chase the last second odds changes. mikeynz
Well Trackside Premier is being screened on TV through TVNZ, not sky, why I don't know but it's also streamed on trackside.co.nz and also tvnz+, it all gets rather confusing over time, it's not bothering me either way but it seems Entain are widening it's audience reach by linking with TVNZ, many don't have sky, many can't or don't stream. I was talking about the Duke channel delivered via Sky. It is possible that the channel is being streamed via the Skybox data link and not via sattelite. At the end of the day the quality via channel 504 on Sky is very low.

You may have answered your own question. On a slightly different note would be interesting to know how many people have a uhf aerial as opposed to a dish, as for streaming, it's airy fairy many times, contrary to what many say TV from a dish/ aerial is still going to be around for a while, the numbers who stream as opposed to watching standard TV for sports is miles behind., streaming is good as a go too, not a have too,NZ Cricket taught us that. I disagree. I have a lower end broadband connection and the majority of programmes I watch are streamed on demand.
