Newmarket
Anyone else attend punters club at Addington yesterday? Be interesting to hear others views, below are mine. THE GOOD…Food was great, buffet style meal, followed by sweats after. Savouries came out later, while pizzas were supplied later in night, full marks👍. THE BAD…Whoever set up the area, was not really catering for punters. Couldnt hear anyone talking on mic….had 4 small TVs similar size to those in my bedroom….one had a reality womans show on until we asked someone to change…. volume was hopeless, everyone struggled to hear races? $9 for a can of speights… bar didn’t take cash…. I know, maybe no big deal, but here I am sitting at home in front of a big TV with sound, thinking how lucky I am about to watch Riccarton races.

It was dark and then when they turned the spot lights on later was hard to see the TVs. Food was great. You are right sound was terrible. I never heard a word the MC's were saying. They may as well have been not there. On a brighter note the punting was great.

Value for money fantastic, best team finished second unfortunately, absolutely need more of these competitions.

How did none of those teams win anything ?😎 some of the easiest picks ever show day. KEAYANG Zahara , special of the century. backed OscarB. (he has won the NZ FFA twice already and was good in the Dominion) And all lost last 2 races on 'Best horse in the country' Merlin ? and 'Smoke on The Water' in the last race (who boomed home Cup day from the back with a ''Get on Me Showday sign' on flashing bright) Think BOAY should have had a team ? in and would of been a Hand-Canter to Victory 🏆 . BOAY team of ( Gamma + $1000, Broster +$1000, The Galah +$1000, TABman +$1000, (Chief, Ranga, Blackie -1000 🙄) 😎 ) = total win $3, 000 win on the money and crushing that poor lot of pluggers at Addington PC 😋 . Rather than have a nervous breakdown I'm out. Too much money = too much pressure for Ranga. I will stick to INVESTING Chocolate Fish Portions with The Wycola Park Bookie.

Newmarket
Talking of Aussies…. Several times during the day I saw Aussie punters trying to cash in large bets that were not part of punters club. A few puzzled faces when they were told it needed to be deposited in NZ TAB Account, which of course they didn’t have…. Not sure what happened. Yeah but 2 or 3 teams from memory jumped out to a good lead, all over $1k from memory. So everyone was chasing, which mainly gets punters chasing bigger divs…. and those in front lost a bit of ground, was a few favs beaten. Was a good day

How right you are Gamma.......after a fair bit of travel taking in Melbourne then into Auckland Trots and down to Christchurch ...Cup week was 'essential' in our southern Household .....it seemed a bit much to lock one self away in a dark space doing battle in the Show Day comp ,particularly when I thought the Locals with all the local bully , the Brodster and the Galah would be simply cleaning up. Swayzee certainly not bothered by the travel ,flies in the day before !!! I hope the room had some heat cos there was a thermal blast , even worse on Gallops Cup day morning...a reminder that place just one sandhill away from the South Pole. We would have been unstoppable.....open minds , huge respect for the Aussies and the much maligned Northern horses and horsepeople ! I sure had the funds ......along with some enthusiastic groups of Aussies I , as per usual in Cup week [ rest day be damned ] drove the 80mins down to Ashvegas and filled the Coffers. By my standards as one of the world's worst punters Ashvegas , 14 races in all, was a revelation the generosity of the dividends [ yes tote] unmatched. Two trotters that everyone was shouting from the rooftops both won paying over $20....one had blown out on Cup day ,2 days earlier ....one run short while the other had ran sensational at the "Cup trials'. One trifecta paid over $5 k !!! Plus Greg Sugars drove a $10 winner ,and a Group performing filly streeted a field of lowly rated battlers ! So Friday was going to be more 'treats'. The magic of Merlin back in distance with the two Aussies in the trifecta....money for jam While the obvious Quinella in big trot with perennial 3rd ,4th or 5th Midnight Dash and RC Phoenix [Aus] Outrageous $600 Tri and $4.8 k First 4. No hindsight needed here ! One needed to be there ....Smoke On The Water in the 13th race to top the day off , and the kitty grew further at Cambridge. I guess you needed to be there Gamma .....so much to enjoy about Cup week !

I didn't take the Tri's and F4's this time round but yeah the Oscar B one In the Trotting FFA looked a beauty. good on you . Oscar was one of my best for the day. should of looked at that F4. Marketplace was enormous , and Borris was a beast both days. A friend has a share in Meant to Be (winning the Group1 2yearold trot) . Chief 's fav horse won at Riccarton a group 1 as well . so had those as well. Missed with 50 bucks on DSD (didn't think Swayzee could travel all those km's from Young NSW win to Chch and still win) and 50 on Miki Bennett (the 2nd day) after he looked the winner the CUP day but broke in the run home when going to the lead. Did exactly the same on Showday though. What are the chances ??😳 Was all but there to enjoy. Is Nice NewMarket said the Punters club function went well though and he had a great time. I will be there next Nov 2025 100% , as just had a few loose ends and couldn't get there last week when wanted to go. more up and downs than Leap To Fame 🤕 . only been once to Addington way back 80's with Lightning Blue. retire tomorrow . so big night out New Queens Wharf ( $3 billion dollar development in Brisbane that just opened,) is on the cards tomorrow night 🍻🕺, and might try and find a horse to bring to Addington next year. lol. Have the ASCENT Winning Tip for you already though 💰 . Another Volstead sired trotter like 'Keayang Zahara'. This blokes name is 'Enchauffour'. 2025 Ascent winner , long range prediction 😂 . He can trot a 56 second half already , (a lot faster than Meant To Be)

Mean't To Be is a leggy ,long striding fella who will get better. Plus there will be plenty of other opposition. He sold for $130k as a yearling ,his mother only raced a few times but won the NZ Trotting Derby v Boys by 5 lengths ! Mean't to be has a number of first time owners , apartment residents in the on-track complex at Alex Park ! Higher Power looked good but went amiss. And my syndicates have 3 x young trotters who already have won a race and the 2 yr old bonus which go with your first 2 yr old win .Its $8k for the Owners and $4k for breeders. There were 7 trotters chasing it at Ashburton in Maiden trot , 10 @ addigton and at night another 5 @ Cambridge in rain ! I shared your pain with Miki Bennett on Friday ,it looked home. Looking forward to seeing you Nov 2025. Tuesday ,Trot Cup.....Wednesday Gallops, Thursday , Ashburton Harness 14 races ,Friday Group 1 Trots 13 races , Saturday Gallops......get into training NOW ! Blackie
He’ll need a way of hiding the ball & chain to get past customs… Retired hey, congratulations that man. Something to look forward to next year, might even shout the suspect one an ale. Let’s hope Just Believe & Swayzee are retired by then as well.
