As for your opinion the RIB didn't agree and on this occasion I concur with their decision.

But you have to agree, the majority of horses falling or jockeys falling off, are from inexperienced jockeys, same those clipping heels. 
 

Need more time at trials way before they turn up on Raceday, no doubt there will be far more falls in the coming days. If those in the industry can’t sort these issues, gallops will be next to go, why not if horses race around in fields not in control, or jockeys getting trampled. 
 

I have not seen any jockey or horse falling I Australia for a long time, not just metro tracks, but outback as well.

There are enough trials and jumpouts nowadays for training the apprentices, even if it means south island apprentices spending a month or two at a north island stable.  Not forgetting the reduced trial riding fee incentive.

Rodeo training might be difficult with that being possibly the next victim of animal rights activists.  Bli'm not so sure being dropped by a bucking bronco early in your training is good for the nerves.

Fantastic to see good riders giving back to the industry.

I think it might have been Kim Clapperton (someone will know) who broke her arm riding a mechanical bull.

My point is you can be injured so easily at times, I wouldn't want to increase those odds unduly.

I agree though that there has to be more training than plodding around a track.  Riding skills are honed over time.  The rush to raceday intrigues me.

The 30 pages of b/s required for a 'slow work licence'  isn't helping one iota either.   IMO.

I've noticed how the time and energy put into some of these trackwork riders has been a waste of time as they have dropped off quickly.  I think this may be due to the new system.  You have to have a licence to go on the track whereas in the past you would just slip into the system and learn as you go.

I think akin to everyone looking out for the L plates on the road.

Was there much wrong with the old system?  You have to learn somewhere and somehow.  The people teaching must be trainers who know how and have suitable horses and trackwork riding mates.

I've had a look at the video and think it's a case of toe in the iron.  The horse definitely went down on it's nose but, I can't help think if the feet were fully in the irons the horse would have had more chance of competing.

I haven't a clue about riding but wouldn't you have your toe firmly in the stirrups at the start?  Move out and up after you have found a position.

I would but that's not how they do it these days and it would be risky adjusting your foot position at full gallop I'd think. Be interesting to hear from an experienced jockey on this.

Notwithstanding the above discussion,  I thought young Floor Moerman showed good balance and judgement in her first win yesterday at Riverton...and over a trip too.

But still not a local,  she's from the Netherlands.

I backed her on a couple of the Parsons team at Kurow, both should have won but appeared tactically average, but I agree she did look balanced when riding them out

Fair comment, depends who she gets 'tactical' advice from I guess but she's too sharp not to pick things up.

Yeah well there were about a dozen  senior riders at Ellerslie yesterday who could do with some tactical advice.
