When you see old cowboy and Indian and cavalry movies the horses are trained to charge in full flight with urgings of the rider , and they (the magnificent horses) seem to enjoy stretching right out at a full gallop like they would in the wild if they were mustangs or brumbies , and not a whip in sight.

I'm not sure how many movies you've worked on or how many horses you have ridden in work Gamma but, what you see at the races is the finished product no matter how it has got there, and do you think all those movies are completed in one take without any discipline?

Horses in the movies are absolutely amazing. Just love them . from Zorro to the Lone Ranger. Warhorse is a great Spielberg film if you can catch it. fantastic movie.  The charge of the Light Brigade , just stunning photography , as is Ben Hur. These horses just gorgeous and give it everything 😁. can't beat a good harness horse.

The Roman dude got a HUGE Whip fine after this race in video 😉 , plus a 6 week suspension for 'tightening another runner' once he got out of hospital 😋. (this reminds me of my driving days when ya really 'Had a Go !!!🤣)

I was more thinking about reclaiming the sling!

Which proves my point.  If you didn't notice then 99.9% of viewers don't either.

Except @Thomass who trawls the Stewards Reports when he gets to work on Monday.

I very much doubt the Stewards see it in real time either instead they rewind the HD Video for each race and watch in slow mo with a clicker counter and a protractor.

No wonder they need 35 minutes between races.

You'd have to be Magoo to miss Stott's leg extension and his torso corkscrewing to enable extra power for his illegal over the shoulder action

The only bit of good news going forward is that Curious and myself embarrassed NZTR into banning whip use on the flank

I emailed the previous RIB CEO Mike Clement numerous times pointing out that NZTR had signed up to the International Federation of Horseracing Associations (IFHA) Article 32 which bans flank whipping

He finally responding by stating "RIB disagrees with the latest NZTR whip iteration"

I asked numerous jockeys on line (mostly Australians) why they profess love of the horse while smacking the shit out of the highly sensitive unprotected flank, mostly with the non padded polymer section

Brent 'The Babe' Thompson responded "jockeys should not be striking the flank"

Meanwhile the 'money men; like Vlandys said "the whip doesn't hurt"

That's the problem, when the 'money's up' money men don't give a shit about the 'love of the horse'

And I believe you're one of those

Just as I thought you are one those who is obsessed with hating the sport of racing to the point you'll do anything to bring it down.

I suggest @Thomass that you and @curious buy a pony and join a club.

If you are now having pangs of guilt for your past involvement in the sport of racing I suggest you go to the confessional and bend over and absolve yourself.

Meanwhile the rest of us will get on and enjoy racing.  Racing has always been about competing for a prize of some sort.  Get over it.
