Wingman
Great racing today at Ellerslie and very happy the track coped despite late rain. In the 2yo race I have found a rough bet. I don't think it can win but if I can get $8, (7/1) I am thinking it is worth backing it to run 3rd at over twice the price of the two favourites. The horse is Vega for luck and opens and stays at 20/1, drifts to 26 then 31 but place price is always around the 5 to $6 range. Too late I notice the world tote is rapidly drifting its price in the last minute and it finishes at 66/1 win 15/1 place. Meantime 'our' TAB does its usual jiggery pokey very late in the piece and says its closing price is 80/1 and 12/1 place. IMO the NZ TAB are becoming very cynical with their pricing and making it less attractive to bet. Bottom line is; at the close the place price of Vega for luck with world tote is approx 24% of the win price whilst NZ TAB is 15%. That is a rort and I suspect it will not improve. I enjoyed watching but I am not going to bet into false odds. Another example of why a tote without bookie will always be best for the punter. curious
I thought the NZTAB tote was commingled with the world pool for that race so I don't see how you would get 2 different prices, or did NZTAB run their own separate pool as well? Huey
I was expecting bigger pools from this world tote, from what I followed on the website not one broke $1m . But how can one be unhappy when the horses were faster, jockey silks cleaner, grass greener, women were prettier, men's suits were more majestic, Dave and Debbie were happier , KM night is the greatest sporting night anywhere in the world! To top it all off , everyone who has the $$ can be involved in this amazing night next year because Dave will be buying at Karaka this year and he has found some real gems this year!

So why do you bother? You are so bitter and twisted about the sport probably because of some grievance from the past why bother at all? I'm guessing you are one of these people who talked big but was never very successful in horse racing and is now a perpetual cynic who contributes nothing to anything. Wow a bit over the top Chief , true not everyone can pick KM winners like Dave & team TA but they can sure enjoy a great time watching the festivities and we should all be very thankful to NZB,Entain,Ellerslie & TrackSide for putting this amazing show on for us...some might say the greatest show on earth! It isn't actually the most exciting ive been to but it is up there. Certainly as good entertainment as anything else on offer. You should get out of your greasy armchair and put some pants on and a clean singlet and attend at least once.

Special Agent
Karaka Millions isn't for everyone. Neither is a picnic on the grass at Tauherenikau or Kurow. It takes all types of people and all sorts of days to make up the racing industry. I think a win is a win to owners though, wherever that may be. I don't think it would take a great deal to improve the whole thing overall. Just think if everyone who attended a race meeting last year made an effort to go to those meetings again this year but, go to a further couple at a different venue. Some clubs need to pull their socks up however with better oncourse experiences for all. 2

Perhaps its not just CS that needs to get the cobwebs out of his pockets?
jess
Not sure it's always about the resources either. Now I'm not talking big, posh race-days here - cos I don't have big posh horses to go to those! But I notice a real difference in hospitality at the various courses I've been to - yes - it's a little bit about the food & drink (entertainment doesn't matter to me - I'm going there to enjoy the horses & racing with friends/relatives). It's more about the people - the warmth of the welcome. Whether that's at the gate - around the course - in the owner's room - or heading out to the stables. On that note - Waverley Racing Club - take a bow. Kind regards. Jess
