I don't think the news of Mark being full time in Australia is a surprise but, what does it mean for the training partnership?  Do the stables become two entities now?

It sounds like he will be back and forth from Aus to NZ , so perhaps that answers how it will run.

Fascinating to see how he goes over there with the new firepower they have, I think he will do very well.

No.  Nothing has changed other than Mark will be based full-time in OZ.

Not much different to the top OZ Trainers having permanent stables in 2 or 3 States.

Will the 'powers that be' in NZ be happy to have a training partner of a NZ stable full-time in Aussie ?

Aussie bosses definitely discourage this type of arrangement.

The news of this 'change' from Te Akau will be interesting as Mark Walker is a highly respected horseman among owners , many believing he is the 'ACE ' in the whole operation !

It certainly goes back a long way without a problem since training partnerships became a thing. I remember for example, the Chris Waller/Heather Weller partnership operating successfully at Foxton when Chris first moved to Sydney.

A lot easier now with video technology and the internet.

I can't see it being an issue (distance or travel) , not to mention the young boy Bergerson seems to be doing a very good job also and is beginning to come into his own.

Aidan O'Brien, Ballydoyle Ireland said Sam was one of the smartest young men to have worked for him.  Herb and Royden Bergerson are very good trainers.  At least Sam has had some balance having spent 4 years completing an accountancy degree.

What is the stables winning strike rate like in Aus…. I thought it was pretty poor overall.

Well you thought wrong.  Perhaps you should check the stats and facts first before commenting.

A strike rate better than 1 win for every 5 starts at an average of 22%.  No trainer in the top 10 in Victoria has a better strike rate.

race location
starts 1st 2nd 3rd win % place% prize Money p.o.t
VIC - Metro
34 5 1 3 14% 26% $1,075,125 41.2%
VIC - Country
26 8 4 6 30% 69% $379,630 43.6%

Sadly Chief you seem to be promoting constant negativity' and knocking  cos this type of nonsense seems to be increasing .

Maybe check the 'basic rules' of BGP , they promote respecting others and not dissing people off !

Yet you seem to lock and chase away Thomass who I find quite 'amusing' ...at times !

How was posting the accurate stats and essentially correcting misinformation posted by @Newmarket "constant negativity"?

WTF are you on about?  What is wrong with questioning the sustainability of the TAB promotions?  Particularly in terms of customer retention.

I gather you have no idea what his innuendo about Greek was?  Therein lies another innuendo.  @Thomass just repeats the topics he has been rolling out for decades.  Gets boring and repetivie.

Why are you being so negative?  @curious posted that Waller was working remotely successfully 20 years ago.  I lot easier to do it today with modern technology.  I've seen videos being done of trackwork, followed up by vet report and a video of a horse cool down post work sent to a remote trainer seconds after being taken.  I've even seen a video call where the trainer from a long distance away is in a conversation with an assistant trainer at the track.

Get with the programme @TAB For Ever !!!!!

Humble apologies...my cost accountant training didnt require English and I skipped words to make my point and it came out all wrong.

It should be....

1. This Newmarket is now thriving on Negativity and merely criticising things he knows little about ,and I did give you a Champion post tick for that.re Mark Walker.......clearly he not letting the facts get in the way of a good story.

2. BGP getting too big for part-time administration ,so clearly it a good fit to partner with BGP on their BIG events for the year as it a perfect fit......The TAB wants to push oncourse attendance and on course experience , the TAB wants to introduce new young folk to Racing [ Next Gen the word everywhere ] and obviously to future proof the sport and wagering into the future.  The TAB and Club now handle the money etc etc.

3. As to Trans Tasman stables , the Waller was well over 20 years ago and he was little known and only a few horses were involved. Walker is high profile and as the move is talked about as 'permanent' IMO Racing may not want a top trainer living in a different country . The brakes ,I believe , were put on a  fellow well known  Matamata trainer recently in this regard. Yes , I see the videos and voiceovers from some stables currently.

Even Gai Waterhouse had a NZ stable at one stage ,I seem to remember....but like Waller that must have been 20 years ago...this is now !

Yes I thought they would have done well in Aus especially Vic they have had some good results Imperatriz, Ballatrix Star, Quintessa & San Doubte all doing well.

They have bought some nice horses should enable them to be more than competitive over there, looking forward to watching it unfold , Aus is the right place for the quality of animal they are investing in.

Michael Moroney has had Ballymore Stables at Flemington for more than 20 years , but I see he pop's up in NZ where he started out quite often too.

He must be dual country licensed ? or have they taken his original NZ one off him now? bit tough if they did. ?

Waller has a QLD based Stable , and doesn't see the horses there much at all , and probably trains via Video link I imagine.

I guess it's nice that Pam Gerard doing well , and Savaglee getting heaps including the Kiwi coming up 😉, but I feel sorry for Michael , as he probably commuted fairly often , could do Video link training like Waller, and probably has bucketloads of faithful owners he trained for over the years that he liked preparing horses for in NZ.

I've actually had the opportunity to speak with Pam Gerard a few times in recent weeks.  Very approachable and a hard worker.  Does very well with a limited number of cattle.

Yes, the Ballymore example is a more recent one as are the ex state stables in Oz such as Waller in Queensland and those are run by assistant trainers, not co-trainers as is proposed here. In NZ, the likes of Walker and Marsh have had satellite stables in the SI also headed by assistant trainers. I don't see the problem nor that one is likely.
