From a business point of view a lot of what you say makes sense.

You are trying to return a profit in your head though for the competitors and slot holders. DOESN"T Happen.

you're Looking at it wrong ,  as ALL these blokes are nearly All millionaires. The slot owners 💰 and the horse owners 💰 .  They don't care about the Money, it's the Glory they're after. or the fun of trying to obtain the glory. They all have their money from other sources , and this is just pocket change for them .

BUT you forget . It's fun and it's a Sport. People play sport for Fun and Pleasure. It's not about making money. It's the thrill of the Win (or getting fit, or winning the Premiership or whatever)  . Most people that Race horses expect they should run at a loss. (about same percentage as what Punters do. which I believe is 80-90 %.

The thing with the competitors in this BETCHA race, the 9 Losers are still exceptional horses and might get the money next start 👍💰😉  (unless the Don or Larry or Swayzee are in it of course 🤣😂) chances become slim then. 🏆😁

Agreed Gamma, all of them want to win rather than the monetary thing!

So why on earth when harness is struggling would HRNZ or the TAB fell the need to chuck a not insignificant $400k into the “the race”?

The ones running things nowadays on the whole are very average when it comes to making business decisions in the best interests of the harness industry!

They are proving time after time that they really are not working for the best interests, despite the Trackside Presenters etc. trying to tell us they are!

Pretty sure there is very little interest in “The Race” unless you have a connection with the starting horses!

Possibility that they will be racing on a wettish track as they are expecting heavy rain tomorrow.

Hopefully it will stop before the meeting starts or the numbers attending will be down and will be miserable for participants if it is raining.
