Special Agent Posted April 14 Posted April 14 If you owned one of those entrants would you be happy to pay northern training fees and float fares to trial in central? Why would you not send your horse to a central trainer and gallop on a grass whenever you want? Quote

Insane state of affairs but its either that or a quiet run in an unsuitable race if there even is one of those. Yes. There are likely many now having 'quiet' runs at the races. Same situation as when 'free' starts were introduced and trials fees were hiked to encourage ( force ) horses to the races to increase betting turnover. The likelihood of horses having training or educational runs and therefore being unsuitable betting propositions clearly escaped management. As an aside, it hasn't escaped notice how well North Canterbury and Timaru trainers are performing, given relative numbers in training. Quote

Are you suggesting that might be because they have access to a course proper grass gallop most of the time? Quote
