Handicapping changes.

June 30 is the date new system starts but what changes are they proposing?

I've noted another anomaly at Ascot Park, 2 rating 59s racing  rating 48s, by rights one of them should win but the rating 59 will then revert to a class it was struggling in in the first place which seems a bit weird to me, an 11 points rating difference in a race is a big spread, just my thoughts.might be different if they were on 20 or 30 m but in a FFA,?

We've discussed many anomalies in the handicapping system, seems there are no easy fixes.

i view the coming changes to the handicapping system as positive steps.

But it needs top go hand in hand with programming of race conditions in a way that maintain peoples participation.

The tueday meetings that they have been having at addington and cambridge i view as very positive  for many reasons.

People may say they cater for the lower grade horses but in reality they are doing heaps more to retain peoples participation than any bonus or high stake race ever will.

there are other positive things happening in the industry.

even small things like i read where Hrnz have on social media a registry of properties who take horses for grazing.  at least that indicates a recognition of an issue that is important. Hopefully its  promoted in a way that gets people to register their properties,i don't know how they are doing that.

Its like i've always wondered why they don't have on the hrnz website a registry, where owners can list their horses that are availbale for lease. It could be set up whereby an owner can put their horse on there and take applications from interested parties overa  set  timeframe and that way owners could meet and inspect the facilities of interested parties before making a decision.I don't know, maybe they have soemthing like that elsewhere, but i've never seen it if so.
