But you're the expert.

Not when it comes to the Tangerine Chief , I humbly submit to your superior knowledge on the subject.

Do tell.

Looked very nice running along indeed. Ready made winner with Opie riding. Liked the look of the second Placegetter too. he was gathering some pace towards the line and coming on strong.

Yes and the horse that was second in the first trial Avantaggia won has come out and won by 7 lengths.

From all reports she is very much like her mother Avantage.  However in my opinion the Wootton Bassett's take a bit more time and add stamina.  Avantaggia has 1000 Guineas written all over her.  If successful would that be Te Akaus 8th or 9th?

Surely at a cost of $2.1m Aus riches have to be on her radar?

On every Te Akau horses radar.  Probably only the radar of any serious racehorse owner.

Wins in NZ worthless then?

Not at all.  I'm sure you'd find a lot of worth in your 20 start maiden winning one.

Absolutely !

Will be interesting to follow her and where they decide to first start.

That $12 for the 1000 Guineas could disappear very quickly, so wise to get on now, based on TA's record.

A small question mark still, is that first trial was on good footing and she ran a lonely last, whereas the 2 impressive trial wins have been on heavy tracks

A friend of mine was at Matamata that day (a number of photos were posted on BOAY) - a huge number of horses went round.  It was scorching hot and the track was flint hard.  She felt it and didn't let down as did a number of horses that day.  The instructions to Shinn were that she was just there for the education and not to push her around.

I did see her in a paddock as a yearling and she was small and stocky and didn't look as advanced as the other yearlings.

How many have you got racing in the South Island then?  Are you achieving what you aspire to?

I'm having lots of fun! So absolutely I am.

You'd probably want to be careful taking the 12s as they might target the Kiwi with her and then she might not go down for the guineas?

I'd say they'd prefer to target the Guineas however I think you'll find that Avantaggia is not eligible for the Kiwi B.  Damask Rose went down the path it did because it had problems early in the season and was eligible for the Kiwi B.

Definitely not eligible for the Kiwi

Yes I would have thought @Huey with his extensive knowledge and opinions on NZ Racing would have known that already.  Perhaps his office trainee needs to put another column in the spreadsheet.

It also means she is not eligible for the KM 3 year old race at a a very Aus competitive 1.5 mil.

I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing, as they will aim her for the 2,000 Guineas then straight off to Aus, so we will not get to see her race in NZ again.

And I guess for all you old lags lol, one of the romantics attractions still of racing in NZ, is seeing top horses race here

I wouldn't think any of our very best would stay here after the guineas races. There's nothing left in the pattern here for them after that unless they are middle distance prospects. Have to go to Oz if they are G1 level and potential top broodmare or stallion prospects don't they?

Especially if you aren't eligible for the Slot Race or the KM.  All roads lead to Ellerslie but not all the horses can go there for eligibility and track suitability reasons.
