hesi Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Sherwin clearly states that had the local industry supported the race, then it would not have been in danger of losing its G1 status. Parochialism at work. You will note that if you ever point the finger at someone, there are always 3 fingers pointing back......try it Quote
hesi Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) I see the usual garbage on the FB site. No wonder people like Russell Warwick and Matt Ballesty won't have anything to do with such a bunch or heretics, malcontents and conspiracy theorists. I see someone there also wants to start another site to gripe about the loss of races (temporarily it has been stated) from the CD. If they took time to watch Weigh In, they would see the perfectly legitimate reason given for having to move the Oaks to Ellerslie and Bruce Sherwin's shot at NZ racing in not supporting the race with horses like Prowess, La Crique and Orchestral choosing not to line up Edited 20 hours ago by hesi Quote

The odds are Trentham won't be up to scratch of they stayed there. Although they are playing the game with the rules and good on them. Quote
hesi Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Though Bruce Sherwin was quite specific in saying one of the ways of defending a downgrade was a race conditions change, in this case venue. And that would give it a 1 year reprieve, maybe 2. 1 Quote
Huey Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago But haven't they contributed to the race losing its Grp 1 status by messing with carnivals and adding slot & sales races that have made the race less relevant than it has been in the past? 1 Quote

Agree. And the Derby ( IMO) has also been made less relevant by the same factors. 2 Quote
hesi Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The Oaks will be the same day as the Avondale Guineas, the traditional lead up race to the Derby on 7 March. If you have a high quality filly, you will more than likely target the Derby, as did Orchestral and La Crique, so not sure how this move will improve the Oaks field 1 Quote

I don't think it is the addition of slot and sales races that have made the Oaks less relevant. It is more the lack of regional patterns that give mulitiple pathways to the Oaks. All roads seem to lead to the KM or Slot races and that makes it hard for horses that are not eligible for those races. Also that bias means that most horses outside of the Waikato have to travel to pick up rating points and find suitable races. Quote

The Levin Classic is a perfect example of this ... venue, distance, date ... now down to Group 2. It might have ended up there anyway but, it would make more sense if it was still run closer to home with the people and community who set up the Bayer Classic from nothing. Quote

Come'on @Special Agent the people and community that created it from "nothing" had long bailed. Quote
