From all reports that i had read / heard (i.e NZ Top Trainers, Jockeys etc) they are unanimous in their praise for the drainage upgrade that the Club did (and paid for themselves) No I don't have a deep dislike for Ellerslie. I do have a dislike for the way they are amongst the favoured few. I was referring to earlier efforts to work on the track. There have been major "repairs" done before and they have never lasted. The track is fundamentally stuffed primarily due to the soil structure.

Plus the sweat of club Members of course doing work that, at the major clubs, would be done by paid staff or contractors Your question re non stakes funding is irrelevant - if we transfer it will come with us(ie none of that stuff is for the maintenance of facilities - we have never got money for maintenance of facilities from NZTR) Edited February 7, 2019 by Reefton

Ellerslie may have got it right this time with their track but there have been plenty of times they have pissed vast amounts of industry money up against the wall on infrastructure(as have all the other Metro Clubs). And what bloody right has NZTR to go and give them $500,000 to subsidise races for which the majority of horses are not eligible? 2

For the uninitiated amongst us Reefton is referring to the Karaka Millions races - the 2yr old and the 3yr old races. That would fund 50 $10k maiden races. It typifies the incestuous nature of Nz racing...one of the directors at Ellerslie is one andrew seabrooke..who also happens to be the ceo or something at NZ Bloodstock....get the connection? So you ask why is the racing industry propping up Ellerslie racing, especially closed-circuit racing open only to those who buy horses from nz bloodstock sales..? simple, aint it? 2
MaltedMilkshake
My irritation comes from knowing that NONE of these people are accountable....just sneaking things in when they think no one is looking...as my old bookmaker Dad would say “it’s only a rort if you’re not in on it”....really sums up NZ racing...
Reefton
To be fair to them guys it is pretty hard to avoid clashes of interest in NZ racing if you are truly a racing person - you are always going to have known someone or had dealings with them somewhere. Otherwise we end up with the NZTR or NZRB scenario where no clash of interest but of course no empathy or direct involvement in the actual racing game.
