Chief Stipe Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I see the hypocrite @Comic Dog aka Scooby aka Leigh Mckenzie is pontificating about the naming of posters who hide behind avatars. As I've said many times before over the history of a posters posts inevitably the identity of that person is revealed. It doesn't take Sherlock or Einstein to work out who someone is. So to name someone isn't an invasion of privacy in those circumstances particularly when they are hiding behing avatar names to make defamatory posts that go well past honest opinon. Where the Privacy Act can be brought into question is when information such as home address and phone number are released. But as is the rule with ALL forums if you cross the line legally and someone objects and you don't remove your post or you continue to write defamatory comments then you have no legal defence. If you can't prove it and won't back up what you say with hard evidence then don't start crying when someone pushes the legal eagle button. Of course honest opinion is fine but libel is a different kettle of fish. I'm confident that I have never breached any Privacy Act laws nor written anything that is libellous. That said it should be known that in my days as an administrator of the "other channel" Leigh Mckenzie purchased software that enabled him to read the "private messages" sent between participants hence the strong arm moderation when private messages were in disagreement with him. That was one of the things I did not condone as well as the use of other users logins and hence BOAY was created. Word of caution - the latest software that forums use enables Administrators to login as another person. This feature allows Admins to work through issues a User might have with there account by being that User. There are nefarious uses. At the end of the day I as an Administrator get frequent complaints about the BS some people post - I have to make a decision to hide the offending post and warn the poster if warranted. I had such an instance tonight on the BOAY Trots channel. Quote
Chief Stipe Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 LOL I see Barry Wallace aka @Joe Bloggs has called me a "prick and a narcissicist" on the other channel under the name of Farnarkler. If anyone reads his posts and compares them to mine you can see where the label fits. Quote
Chief Stipe Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 @Joe Bloggs aka Farnarkler it is NOT illegal to name someone when they have posted online - who they were apprenticed to, the trainers the worked for and where and then name the horse that they own. Remember Roc de Cambes. Not to mention where they lived in the past and the travel business they owned. Quote

Chief Stipe Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 @Joe Bloggs I assure you I'm not scared at all. I have had to come fully up to speed with the Harmful Digital Communications Act due to poster indiscretions and they have been dealt with. Quote
