Hi all.  Don't know a lot about this track - or what sort of work was done when it was out of play.  I see it's come back to a heavy 10 (from a 9) following 3mm rain overnight.

Anyone more in the know hazard a guess as to what it'll be like tomorrow?

Cheers, Jess

I doubt the surface will be much different than it ever was. The work was to adjust the camber but all the original turf was relaid.

I thought they did more than that.  Certainly not just one bend but multiple.  Even so the relaid turf would have only been 30mm in depth - arguably it wouldn't be "much different than it ever was" only if they didn't do anything to the soil beneath the turf.

Just the 1400 bend I thought.

Key Rehabilitation Work Done
  • Re-cambering: A specialist machine cut and rolled 50-millimetre-deep slices of turf. The underlying soil was shifted and built up from the inside to the outside rail to establish an improved camber tapering over a metre high at the outer edge. [1, 2]
  • Turf Relaying: Sections of the course proper—including the 1400-metre chute and bend—had fresh grass strips stored, re-laid, and compacted back into place where they successfully took root. [1, 2]
  • New Rails: Australian-made dual running rails (inside and outside) were ordered and installed to accommodate the altered levels caused by the new camber. [1, 2]
  • Surface Maintenance: Targeted procedures like Verti-Draining were applied, especially on tighter reconstructed bends, alongside thorough testing through jumpouts and trials monitored by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR). [1, 2]

being removed in strips at a depth of 50cm and soil added

I think he means 50mm for the turf (which is more than the normal recommendation - they must have stored strips instead of rolls as I doubt 50mm turf would roll that well - although soil will have been removed to that depth to help create a camber with 1m in height at the outside and 0m at the fence.

A heavy ten, fresh track, this could be interesting.

A Heavy 9 raceday morning.  Not likely to be "interesting" if heavy as previous issues were most late rain on firm tracks.

It actually looked half decent for Race 1.

Will it put to bed the conspiracy theorists that NZTR is trying to close down racing in the Hawkes Bay, probably not

Haven't heard that one. I thought they were trying to expand it with a new track even.

That's the official view.   @hesi was referring to the conspiracists unless you think Racing Admin are running a conspiracy.

Keep up, you can when it suits, all the social conspiracy theorists.

The FB Racing site is full of them, Wightman the worst, but then he has conspiracy theories about most things

Sounds to me like you are the one with the conspiracy theories.

Of all the regular social media posters that I read, I reckon you'd win the race for most conspiracy theories.

LOL!  Hell I can think of 4 that have posted more on one subject alone than @hesi in total!!!  You were a close 5th on that subject!!!!
