Amateur Rider "Bludger needed whipping"

Another pitiful Whip violation yesterday...yet again from an Amatuer rider..2 in the race...and one who should know better...Scott Wenn

What a disgraceful out of control mob this lot are..almost every single race this year has resulted in Whip violations...

Absolutely time to get rid of these races...the Industry can no longer tolerate constant infringements when we're under intense scrutiny from animal welfare zealots...

Yesterdays case was the worst this season...Ms. J McIllroy

Out of contention and in last placing she decides to strike it 15 times because it's a " Bludger"

This stuff belongs well and truely in the past...accepted then...by the cowboys of the Industry...who wanted to teach bludgers a lesson...besides it made them 'feel good and they deserved it'

Read and weep

"Mr Oatham demonstrated the incident using the available video footage. He identified Ms McIlroy and showed that she used her whip on 15 occasions in the home straight. He said BARB DWYER was in last placing and it was not responding to the whip.

Ms McIlroy accepted that she used her whip on 15 occasions in the home straight when her mount was out of contention. She said BARB DWYER was a “bludger” and it was “sacked” after the race.

Decision:

As Ms McIlroy admitted the breach the Committee found the charge proved.

Submission For Penalty:

Mr Jones said that Ms McIlroy had a clear record under this Rule in the last 12 months and she admitted the breach. He referred to the JCA Penalty Guide which provides a $300 starting point for a first breach of this Rule. He said there has been some discount applied in recent times for Amateur riders.

Ms McIlroy asked for a suspension instead of a fine because Amateur riders do not get paid.

Reasons For Penalty:

The Committee considered all the evidence and submissions presented.

The JCA Penalty Guide starting point for a 1st breach of excessive use of the whip is a $300 fine. This fine includes admission of the breach and a clear record.

The JCA database showed that Mr Isdale, Mr Myers and Mr Frye all incurred a $250 fine for similar breaches after Committees took into account their Amateur rider status.

The Committee told Ms McIlroy that the manner in which she used the whip was unnecessary and unacceptable. It was evident that her mount was well out of contention and it was not responding to the whip in the final straight.

The Committee considered that it would be inappropriate to impose a suspension because of the limited riding opportunities available to Ms McIlroy.

After taking into account all the above factors and in the interest of consistency a $250 fine was deemed to be an appropriate penalty.

Dead right Tommo, just unacceptable. And the bloody useless riu and j.c.a. are just as much to blame letting riders get away with murder in respect of whips. For one thing these silly 'amateur riders' races are a thing of the past, all well and good to give trackwork people a ride but let them do it at trials or ' point to point' races, we are attempting to garner support for racing. Young people especially are horrified at how some of the idiots belt horses...and why should amatuers get treated any differently anyway?

And whats this starting point shit..the report that guy burgess put out last week made particular point of the j.c.a. just going along with the stewards, and therefore why do we need them..?  This ms mcilroy was a bad case and her fine should have reflected that. Looks  like chicken shit doolley from the j.c.a at work again. Time he was pensioned off if thats the best he can do. Or grown some balls and penalise people sufficiently to make them think again next time they have a whip in their hands.?

Does anyone know if the Stipes talk to all jockeys (incl and esp amateur ones) BEFORE each race,  to remind them of their responsibilities. I agree that not enough is being done to demonstrate we want much more limited use of the whip, esp on horses out of contention.

Yes I'm afraid you're right on this one koppa...

The AMS have had their fun' n' spankin time...go ride at the trials if they want some limelight as you say

Of course the JCA ignored Justice in this case...they had the opportunity to upgrade the fine but decided to lump "BLUDGING" Whip thrashing on a non contender...with Wenn's slightly over the limit on a contender...

Good that they're going to get rid of the JCA then...

..but Oathey will need to finally cop the f on as well...

It doesn't appear so Weas...

The Amatuer's whip violations are running at 85%... to a normal race 5%...

Clearly they're out of control...because they've got white line fever and they're desperate to receive the Duke's Trophy for leading Amatuer...

...at any cost...

Luke Myers had 3 whip violations... almost in a row...and got 2 days...after the 2 fines...

Wet. Wrist. Slap.

Oh and of course McIllroy was part owner of this "Bludger" with her training partner...

Therefore she probably thought she was even more entitled to teach the BLUDGER a lesson...

...now "sacked"

So before she left the sacked racing world...she got what a "BLUDGER" deserved...

15 damn good strikes while out of contention

"That'll taught her"

So while we're tolerating this and allowing Parkes to LEGALLY use his whip 33 times while winning by a snoz.

the USA are about to ban them totally.

The Jockey Club concluded its 67th Annual Round Table Sunday in Saratoga, NY by recommending the American Thoroughbred industry unite on several measures from banning the use of the whip “for encouragement” to uniting on the drug policies in American racehorses and bringing interference rules in racing in compliance with worldwide practices.

The Round Table is available in its entirety here.

James L. Gagliano, The Jockey  Club president and chief operating officer stressed the need for uniting on consistent policies “if (Thoroughbred industry) stakeholders wish for it to be successful.”

The Jockey Club is the official breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds and serves as a strong advisory board for the Thoroughbred industry in the United States, which is officially governed by regulatory authorities in the 38 states that sponsor Thoroughbred racing.

Most notable was the Club’s outright endorsement of banning the use of the whip, sometimes called a crop, during races. Chairman Stuart Janney III announced the recommendation, which was made by the Club’s Thoroughbred Safety Committee, which also included penalty guidelines for breach of the ban.

The call for the ban was immediately endorsed by Marty Irby, executive director at Animal Wellness Action, a Washington-based animal advocacy group established for “helping animals by promoting legal standards forbidding cruelty.”

“The use of a whip to force horses to run faster is archaic and should be eliminated on a global scale,” said Irby in response to the Club’s endorsement. While use of the whip currently is unrestricted in U.S. racing, its use is regulated, usually by the number of allowable strokes, in most racing jurisdictions worldwide.

Janney offered support for the ban with polling data from research commissioned by the Club.

“Consumer research conducted earlier this year indicated that making penalties stricter for violation of rules regarding use of the riding crop received the most support among current and potential fans,” Janney remarked. “No horse or rider will be disadvantaged by the rules, and we will still have fair winners.”

Good.

And while the racing industry here shakes it's head and mutters, at least amateur races could be run without whips,  and apprentice races too.

So yet another whip violation by an 'Amatuer' yesterday.

'Amatuer' because it used to be Jacqui Fleming pro jockey who should know better.  But in those days anything went I guess??

So its still 85% of Amatuer Races this year have Whip Violations.

A truely disgraceful example in the Art of Horsmanship.  One only needs to view a 'race' to see how bad they look and we wonder why we can't be as good as our cousins across the ditch.

Great news..apart from getting rid of these extremely poor betting races...

...next best...is the fact from next season they'll be required to retain hold of the reins while using the Whip...nothing behind the ass then

...besides the fact of their horrendous violations this year...the fact that lack of experience in these races does not get one an allowance....

...they'll all be slapping down the shoulder..

or pushing out like Frankie does....

...best outcome without getting rid
