Trust me...I'm from the Government

Yes Coogee is wonderful at this time of the year tommo....could do without the smoke but its bearable...

To get back to the topic, I'm hearing now that this RITA outfit that peters appointed...read it again...that peters appointed, is actually responsible for most of the proposed legislation giving the Minister at the time almost absolute power over the crucial parts of the racing industry.

So this explains the appointment of one Kristal McDonald, QC. A supposed legal expert, but ingorant and apparently absolutely disinterested in racing. And she once was the Chair of the j.c.a., earning they say, $200k for doing almost zilch. Delegated all the work she was supposed to do to  a   c.e.o.  including heaps of her own legal work. Anyone like to take a guess at what the industry is paying her for this RITA position?

I'm not aware that it is the mandate of a government to prop up a failing business with taxpayers' money....other than charitable organisations.

Successive govts have said ' racing, get your house in order. ...and it hasn't.

There is a saying ' be careful what you wish for, you might get it '    .....and we might at that.

but Freda, the Govt has CONTROL ie the TAB is a Govt agency, so it's not as if this is a privately-owned business that needs to get its house in order without Govt involvement. Part of our problem is that so much of the industry depends on turnover from gambling and the (Govt-controlled) TAB is a MONOPOLY. Bookmaking is illegal in this country, is it not? To rectify the Stakes-funding problem (imo the fundamental issue to bbe addressed), we have to increase turnover from wagering. So the Government has to accept some responsibility for the future of NZ Racing, rather than take the historical approach (ie get your own house in order, don't come to us with your hand out).

Really?  How many of you have read what is being put before this bunch of losers that call themselves a Government? Have you understood how much power the 'Minister' will have if it goes ahead in its present form...not just the Minister, but the Department of Internal affairs..a Government Department.?

Heres a question to choke over when your'e trying to eat your muesili in the morning. IF this Loser coalition get back in later this year...without NZ First-which is a distinct possibilty-then Labour and the Greens will be the Government. Who do you think will be Racing Minister then? And what do you think they will do  to racing?

I'd be very worried if I was anybody apart from Tommo..and even he must see where this could head.

Does anyone know who will Minister for Racing this time next year? It won't be Winnie forever!
