Please put on your protective gear and make visits to McInerney and Coles properties NOW. Take a detailed stocktake of ALL dogs on the premises. Then when this nightmare is over return and take a 2nd stocktake and see how many have mysteriously disappeared .......

Have we ever really had one? if we did they would be on the phone asking the genuine people how they can be helped thru this crisis. Help source feed etc ....something practical.... its gonna be tough for the little people .... battlers in the sport....as Clarkie says the ones who love their dogs.

Luckily I don't believe they do.

When GRNZ last did have a welfare officer it was probably $100k out the door per year for next to zero return from her.

https://www.grnz.co.nz/about-nzgra/meet-the-team.aspx

On the GRNZ 'Meet the Team' page, it is notable that no-one is tasked with 'Welfare' under the 'Talk to me about' column.

It's likely no one wants to hear or speak about it. History has already shown that they didn't even want to look at photographic evidence delivered to them first roughly 3 years ago.

"Welfare is paramount"... Whatever.

I believe this is a great time to take stock of the industry. Take a look at the model and restructure. It's taken a catastrophic event to highlight industry shortcomings. There will be a human viral second wave and a canine coronavirus contagion. If you are lucky both events will occur simultaneously and not prolong the stand-down period. A mutated form of both viruses will return next year.

The industry needs to formulate a plan that is sustainable by reducing the number of racers per trainer. No trainer should be allowed to breed 100's of dogs per year, and not be allowed to import from Australia on top of that. That's ludicrous! Kennels should be reduced to that which is sustainable and easily managed. If coronavirus were to shut down the industry, three or four trainers will be holding 1200 plus dogs with no viable future and nowhere to go. The industry will eventually close.

The TAB which has been rorting the system, overpaying each other by ten's of thousands of dollars, and wasting 50 million on some idiot's whim needs a catastrophic overhaul! They are responsible for the model your code currently follows. Corporate catastrophes the lot of them. Your stakes will be reduced, lean times ahead.
