Brodie
I note that Mark Purdon and Olivia Thornley were fined in race 2 Last night for excess use of the whip. $300 and $400 fines for what? If you watch the replay, you will see that neither of them were a actually hitting their horses with much force at all! This 10 hit rule that Edward Rennell brought in without much support or common sense, would have to be one of the most stupidest rules introduced into any business or sport!! It is long overdue that HRNZ changes the stupid rule back to what it was previously, and was working! Phil Holden, you havent done anything yet, how about seeing sense and overturning it, but why would you want to do anything that is for the betterment of harness racing, when you get paid for just being there for a few hours a week? Are we still awaiting the stakes distribution that we were promised to happen this week?

What on earth does an i formation has been lodged? Just watched Bob Butt’s use of the whip In the first on Fighting Fire, and he got fined $300 for excess as well! Lol These drivers are winning their races and getting fined for cheating as the Stipes say they are being excessive with the whip, even though not one of those drives punished a horse!!!! If they are cheating then the horse should be disqualified as it is getting an advantage!! They are not going to do this as they can collect revenue from this diabolical rule!!! This plonkers rule needs to be GONE!!!!!!! Edited August 1, 2020 by Brodie

LongOwner
I struggle to see how any of them made 12 strikes to the horses rump . RIU in whirlwind roll play to justify there existence - are they having to re apply for their jobs with the restructure ?

Repeating the same crap for the 977th time is certainly boring, but it doesn't make it somehow right. Everybody knows Brodie will only be happy when all horses (or at least those he has money on) are flogged within an inch of their lives. There is definitely "stupidity" on this thread, but it has nothing to do with the 10-hits rule.

It is 10 strikes inside the 400 metres with a couple of exceptions. even if you are tapping them with the whip they seem to count it. It is just a bollacks rule with no sense to it

Racing is losing its enthusiasts big time due to several things and stupid rules dont help Edited August 1, 2020 by Brodie

Look at it these specific races versus animal welfare and tell me who was flogging anything or any animal ! However the 10 hit rule is just blatantly irrational and was rushed thru Without enough consideration and is blatantly stupid. HRNZ needs to change back to what it previously was and it worked! Hugh Bowman has the attention of the animal welfare people at the moment I think. It is just over the top fining these people for next to nothing. Disqualify the horse it runs in the first 4 and is hit over 10 times. If you are going to have the rule enforce it properly. Off course, that would turn people off betting on harness by losing a bet for the number of strikes and we can't have that can we.

The issue isn't complicated. When dissatisfied with a rule that limits the number of times a horse can be struck with a whip, there are two alternative pathways. The logical and ethical one is to say "let's get rid of the whip altogether". The other, favoured by the horse-bashers, is to say "let's get rid of the rule altogether". You've opted to put yourself in the latter group. What's amusing is that you don't even agree with yourself. One of your pet peeves is that incompetent administrators and unscrupulous journalists harm racing by tarnishing its public image. Yet on what surely must be Exhibit A for public image, you suddenly switch to "who gives a smeg?" It really is that simple Brodie Basher. So give yourself a few cuts with the whip and see if the fog will clear.

Animal rights groups arent even worried about it, and yet some plonker brings in the 10 git rule that just makes no sense. I dont condone overuse of the whip on horses at all, but putting a no. On it Is just so illogical. Basil are you possibly the plonker that brought it in?
