mumbles
Betting figures could have benefitted from the NHL and the NBA finals already over as well as no major college sports going on and the NFL nowhere in sight yet till later in the year. Great event though something NZ Racing can never emulate.
Turny
Its like Cup Day Canterbury - they turn out for major events - and to watch history - a bit like Winx in Sydney - you have to have the animals to attract super crowds - Harness Jewels outside of Canterbury Cup week is as good as we have - beyond that zippo IMHO

hesi
Ellerslie used to get 20-25,000 oncourse on Boxing Day not so long ago, when they had the infield open to picnics and boot parties Used to love it, a relaxing day after Xmas Day

Turny
Indeed - and a relation, with many heated debates - once a Corporate always a Corporate and didn't do history study Uni - and knew nothing about racing the day he took the role - change manager and no longer involved at any level Edited June 10, 2018 by Turny
hesi
Well the Messara report is due in July, and while everyone is saying it will focus on costs and a new sustainable model for Racing, perhaps he just might devote a section towards getting people back oncourse for the bigs days and carnivals
Turny
Don't think he will - all about costs and governance and streamlining management of the industry - I think the big recommendation will be joining TAB Australia for all FO betting - he will ditch the BS USA meetings we have and I think he will reintroduce free Trackside to bring back the client base - head office costs will be cut too 25% plus
