Thomass Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 So the day after the never ending appalling death rate in the Melbourne Cup... ...Avondale had 2 horses euthanised after breaking down....the worry was the uneven surface created by wind blown irrigation according to the RIU.... Bur really it was just a wild guess...why we wondered?? FORGETZ (C Burdan) - Faltered near the 700 metres and was quickly pulled up by its rider and immediately attended to by the Veterinarian and was humanely euthanized after being found to have suffered a significant leg injury. The rider advised that FORGETZ had been racing free of interference at the time but due to the reduction of Judicial cameras available, particularly the turn camera, the coverage of the incident was inconclusive. The area of the track was inspected by the Stipendiary Stewards without any significant findings. Oh yea...budget cuts thanks to the TAB Turnover up 10%...but who cares about SAFETY? #profitb4safety Quote
Thomass Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 There appears to be a Power Play going on here... Ive never known the hopeless RIU to be so confrontational to other orgs... Theyre in NZTR's face and I'm pretty sure they'll blink first... Cams back in no time...especially after the New Minister hears about it... Hold on to your daks Quote
Chief Stipe Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Why not point the finger back at MacKenzie and his Board (NZRB, RITA and TAB NZ)? The cuts are due to trying to mitigate the cost of the broadcasting/production contract they all signed up to. Now the costs have been shifted to the codes. At the end of the day no overall benefit to the industry and INCREASED costs overall. 3 1 Quote
Freda Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Whoever is to blame, it is a disgraceful situation and could have serious consequences in the event of human injury - or worse. 3 Quote
Chief Stipe Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 It was clearly evident that Trackside was running a shoe string budget when people were being interviewed on course and they were wearing headphones and holding their own microphone. But it will be alright Saundry will sell a couple of race courses. All the same there should be a bloody inquiry into the Windsor Park/Randall and Co broadcasting con. 1 Quote

It wont come to head until a serious incident , as in a death and H & S start an investigation and they get told , NAH we don't have enough camera's to cover all angles , what with cost cutting and all . They don't fix black spots on roads until the number of deaths becomes untenable , it's all a cost/risk analysis . 1 Quote
nomates Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 But don't read into my comments that i think the racing heads have done some sort of risk/cost analysis , not that smart , more just a slash and burn approach i.e. radio broadcasts cut . Quote
Freda Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 And cameras aside, wtf was wrong with the track for two fatal injuries to happen on the same day? If 'wind-blown irrigation ' had created uneven footing, why was that not noticed earlier? To quote a certain smart commentator ...' bring in the clowns - oh, never mind, they're already here.' Quote
Joe Bloggs Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Where's Saundry? Isn't this bringing racing into disrepute, why the hell is there no massive inquiry,....before the AWL or other idiots get loose and alert mainstream media. If Saundry is investigating or delegating behind the scenes, so be it, but at least let us know, he's not up to the job as are most in charge, it's most definitely an animal welfare issue now. Quote

I believe your litigation laws are vastly different to ours NM, however the only way to stop this behaviour and evolving culture is a civil court lawsuit, the owners of deceased horses, and or family of injured riders sue those in charge, of course culpability has to be proved, without cameras?.....makes it very hard doesn't it, but not impossible, where there's a will, there's a way. They stopped racing...had a meeting...the narrative was that the Track was possibly false in places and was the cause of the deaths... ...however the Jocks agreed to carry on...sans cameras Quote

The start of this race was delayed 13 minutes due to a meeting between the Stipendiary Stewards, Jockeys, Trainers and Club Officials regarding the injuries sustained by two horses during the running of race one and five and it was of the opinion that it was not a track related issue and the meeting was to continue. So let moi translate...they THOUGHT it could have been Track related but decided it wasn't... Quote
nomates Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 It was an odd one , never seen them hold up a meeting before after a horse has lost it's life , i got the impression it was more like a little bit of arse covering . Quote

MARTINA ROSE (Danielle Johnson) was unable to avoid the fallen runner and was brought down. C Burdan was attended to by paramedics and taken to Wanganui Base Hospital for further observation. D Johnson suffered minor abrasions and was cleared by the paramedics however stood down for her remaining engagement. After questioning riders and viewing available footage which was inconclusive due to the absence of a home-turn camera near the 400 metres after recent reductions in coverage, stewards could only determine that BEHIND BLUE EYES had improved on to the heels of the runner ahead and clipped a heel and fell.
