nomates
We have a meeting at Trentham on Saturday , track at present a H11 and raining , so would suggest at best and going on history track will be a H10 at best and probably gluey . The hypothetical question is ; If Awapuni had it's A/W up and running and had been used regularly for racing for 12 months , would you be happy for Trenthams meeting to be xfered to Palmy and run on the A/W . Keeping in mind that there is G1 and a G2 programmed along with another 7 races with 30/40k stakes . I haven't seen the nom's yet but even allowing for them being good does not mean they will all run , could well be all races with 8 or fewer runners if track stays heavy . I ask this is as it could be a possible scenario in years to come .
nomates
Nom's out , 9 in G1 and 10 in G2 , also light numbers in 3 of the other races , i would think a lot haven't even bothered to nom in the expectation of the track being heavy on race day . Freda
No. If I wanted to run on the AW, that's where I would have nominated. If I wanted the turf, that's where I would expect to run.

Also the question of , should black type races be run on A/W's ?

Sell Trentham and build a new Turf Track further up the Coast or in the Wairarapa. 3
mumbles
IMO the fate of Trentham was sealed many moons ago with the removal of the Sales. Its been in slow decline since then.

Been advocating it for years, not the Wairarapa , to far away , definitely north of Foxton , plenty of flat expanses of farmland , sandy based . Sell Palmy as well , worth more as real estate . Make Foxton and Levin training hubs . But you didn't really answer the question .

And i say that as someone who grew up attending every possible meeting i could , loved the place , now just a shadow of its former self . Has more to offer the industry in terms of cash . What is your opinion on moving it to an A/W tho .

I think that you could justify an awt at Trentham if you had a large number of trainers based at Trentham.

No - the Wellington Racing Club should make better use of THEIR assets. No one has to TAKE anything. I think you'll find that the community doesn't have the same investment in the track as Hokitika did in theirs. Easy for Wellington as they are a part of RACE aren't they? I doubt there has been a working bee at Trentham with the Committee and Members rolling their sleeves up in 30 years or more!

No one is taking Trenthams assets , they are part of Race , might have changed , not 100% on that , i know Otaki opted out a couple of years back . They , Race or Trentham of their own volition would make that decision . As the Auckland clubs are doing . Westland's assets were getting taken from them and cashed in and banked , no more track , completely different scenario .

Just Joking........I would assume the $4.6mil for the land sale to that Hutt School that was due for payment in 2023 would repay those loans if my memory is correct?
