Chief Stipe
What the hell is a "Time Critical Track Renovation"? MEETING NEWS Otaki-Maori RC - Friday 7th May - Cancelled The Otaki-Maori Racing Club will not be holding their previously scheduled race meeting on Friday 7th May, as they are about to undertake a ‘time-critical’ track renovation. NZTR have discussed options with the Central Programming Chairman and NZTA representatives, and the decision has been made to add and alter programmes, rather than shift the whole race meeting to a different venue. The following alterations have been made to provide options: A MDN 3YO 1400m race will be added to the Hawke’s Bay RC programme on Saturday 1st May. A R74 1400m race will be added to the Woodville meeting on Sunday 9th May The 2&3YO MDN 1200 at Woodville on Sunday 9th May will now be a MDN 2YO&UP 1200 In addition to the above changes, NZTR will look to divide races where required. If it was time critical, how come they didn't realise until less than 3 weeks before the cancelled meeting when trainers no doubt already have horses aimed at that meeting? Chief Stipe
Long range weather forecast perhaps? Why didn't they just give a bit more detail about what is being done?

Yet another reason the sport is heading into oblivion, 3 weeks out from a race meeting and they take it as an opportunity to save some stake money by altering programmes instead, if this is the solution why was the race meeting on the calendar in the first place? Utter incompetence. Not to mention with everything that has gone wrong at this track in the recent past why is it one of the few left standing? Shouldn't worry you Curious after all according to Bernie you gallop your horses everyday don't you? So what's another week or two of galloping everyday...... Seriously though there were 7 races programmed for Otaki on the 7th. They've only provided alternatives for 3 of them. What about the other 4? Is that a sign that there aren't enough horses in training? The CD had 4 meetings scheduled in a week - now there will be 3. 1 of the programmed races have been added to Hawkes Bay meeting a week earlier and the 1 added to the Woodville meeting 2 days later. The race conditions for a race at Woodville have been altered from being a 1400m just for 2 and 3 yr olds to 2yr olds and UP i.e. any age group. Surely that disadvantages both those who wanted to race at Otaki and those who were aiming for a maiden race with just 2 and 3 yr olds in it. Now they could be up against 4 and 5 yr old robust geldings! Not that we seem to have many of those around anymore. Perhaps they could have shifted the Otaki meeting to Foxton? The internet connection constraint has been proven to be BS.
Chief Stipe
Perhaps it isn't about horse numbers as the fields for Woodville and Fielding (Awapuni) this week are reasonably strong.
