nomates
Trentham abandoned due to the weather conditions , a shame was looking forward to the days racing . But it raises a question , if the A/W had been installed at Palmy would this day have been saved for the industry and it's participants ? mmm i wonder . As for transferring the meeting, that concept seems to be fraught with difficulty whenever I've seen races abandoned...and where the steeplechase and hurdles might be held would be interesting.
nomates
It's these kind of abandonments , late decisions and jumping races , that completely deflate the argument for A/W's . Can't see where the jumping races go , at least before the national meeting . Actually since the A/W's began being put in i can hardly recall an abandonment because of the dastardly weather . Possibly went off before nom's on them .
nomates
Just had a look at the calendar and i wonder why they didn't look to run this meeting on Tuesday , would have been better for the industry and participants to run this meeting than lose it . The devil in me thinks they make more from not paying out stakes than the punting .
Freda
I stand to be corrected - but, as far as I am aware, no race in NZ covers its stakemoney through betting revenue. So, abandoned races would be a positive from that point, surely? Clearly, the inconvenience and costs towards running a meeting, and to participants, is a different matter of course.
Chief Stipe
I see inside 24 hours to start time Victoria Racing shifted the Echuca meeting to Warracknabeal. Sure not a Premier meeting but still 7 races with each race either $25,000 or $23,900 for a total of $170,600. They announced the shift during the day yesterday due to weather/track conditions at Echuca and texted, twittered, emailed and rang all participants. All during a lockdown in Melbourne! What excuses would we get in NZ? "We can't find a driver for the Broadcast Van". "We don't have time to shift the antiquated tote machines". "Transport issues shifting the Tote staff". "We can't dismantle and move the new state of the art easily transported on a special truck barriers". "The sausage roll warmer is hard wired and takes 36 hours to warm up". 4
Chief Stipe
Echuca meeting transferred Carl Di Iorio@CDi_Iorio 17 July, 2021 (Image: Racing Photos) A saturated Echuca course proper has forced Sunday's Victorian flat meeting to be shifted to the state's Wimmera district. Racing Victoria, in conjunction with the Echuca Racing Club, advised on Saturday afternoon that the meeting would be held at Warracknabeal. Echuca Racecourse had received 24mm since Tuesday, which included 10mm of rain that fell overnight. RV stewards inspected the course on Saturday before deeming the track unsuitable for racing with further rain forecast. There are several distance and field-size changes because of the meeting transfer to Warracknabeal, with all three maiden races to be held over 1200 metres while there have been distance amendments to two of the four 0-58 handicaps on the seven-race card. Scratchings have been reinstated, with trainers having until 7:30am on Sunday to scratch from the meeting.

You have answered your own question. You know Chief, for the life of me, I cannot understand why anybody would bet on NZ gallops. I gave up on them 10yrs ago, and only bet on Aussie racing preferably Victorian. It is an absolute exception for me to have a go on the local rubbish, maybe a Winter Cup, or Auckland Cup, but other than that zilch. Do bet on the local dogs though through my love of the code. Trotts, finished with them 20yrs ago. 3
