LP's have continued to elect the same self-serving Board Members repeatedly which has been just as detrimental. There needs to be a circuit breaker pulled very soon of this becomes a death spiral and we are done and finished. I already think the issue is beyond repair. Licensed holders gave up their rights and now we are starting to see the effects of this. They have no say in any of the decisions or rules made, they have no say in any election for an official besides the license rep (whose only one voice on the board anyway) And the licensed people in NZ are so busy squabbling amongst themselves that you will never see strike action like what has happened in Vic. People have already started leaving the industry in droves across all regions. Its only a matter of time before racing is finished in the North for good. CD is going very much the same way and the people in charge always front with "everythings fine". Who in their right mind would seriously want to join an industry with so much uncertainty. Ive constantly been telling people for the last 2 or 3 yrs this industry wont survive much longer and its slowly coming to fruition Edited July 30, 2021 by BitofaLegend
bamboozla
If the dog that tested positive came from a small kennel this obviously plays out very differently and GRNZ and the board are patting themselves on the back for their pro-active actions in protecting the sport by suspending the kennel. You can only assume JMac has been given "too big to fail" status and the GRNZ/Board has baulked and bent over. Never been a fan of a Dictator type approach to managing anything but at this point the sport needs someone to step in and overhaul everything at once. A complete reset of all levels of administration. Sure it would be painful but there is no light at the end of tunnel we are in now, just the certainty of a black hole of oblivion. Yankiwi
JMac had 59 starters or 70% today at Forbury. All other trainers combined had 26 starters or 30%. Jmac had 6 winners today of the 11 races or a 55% strike rate. Of those 6 winners, 3 of them were in races he had 7 of the 8 entrants. With statistics such as those, it tells me at least one of the three things below are true ~ JMac isn't a very good trainer. JMac has poor quality dogs. JMac's racing dogs were not even close to being at 100% fitness today. Also those statistics suggest that in GRNZ's minds ~ JMac's wants as a trainer are more important than the rights of the other trainers. JMac's number of dogs is more important than the quality of them. The numbers of starters today is more important than the welfare needs of sick or recovering dogs.
bamboozla
To me JMac just wants to be the 'cheapest to deliver' supplier of racing dogs. Whether they are good or bad is of little consequence. What matters is getting the highest number of dogs to the track week in week out and use a saturation strategy to supply the highest percentage of dogs possible for any given meeting thereby guaranteeing as much stake money as possible for the cheapest price. When you have 6 or more of the runners in any low grade race mathematically you are guaranteed a return if you can do it often enough. All you need to do is nominate every dog possible as often as possible. Whether they are fit or not, fast or slow really doesn't matter. Just need to play the numbers game. What hasn't been considered is that other trainers with elite level dogs probably don't want to risk racing a JMac dog in a low grade race and risk bringing the virus home to infect their good dogs. I am sure there would have been some nervous trainers with dogs engaged in next weeks Addington features who perhaps didn't nominate this week for entirely that reason. They get penalised so JMac can be greedy and reckless.
shodsie
im guessing the hart/taylor fahey kennel had scratchings today because of "virus" no new threads abusing them for lining up other runners its with us unfortunately the difference is the kennels today didnt take the dogs to the track maybe a fine or kennel stand down for taking dogs to the track is the answer?? There should be a consequence for the Homebush kennel for there actions. The RIB(RIU) & race day vet did their job on Thursday by scratching all their dogs & sending them home. What happened next is where the biggest problem is... GRNZ in their infinite wisdom held emergency meeting this, then hacked & slashed that, to open up the opportunity for the Homebush kennel to put dogs on the track the very next day. Beyond that, earlier in the play, they came out with this little gem. https://www.grnz.co.nz/News/2715/Containment-of-VomitingDiarrhoea-Virus "Dogs that are symptom-free will be allowed to race." Since when does headquarters or the board decide which dogs are fit to race & which ones are not? That's the responsibility of the Vet. A blurb on the GRNZ website does not over-ride a Vet's responsibility to determine which dog is fit to race & which one isn't. GRNZ has thrown every fiber of welfare for the dogs out the window in the last few days with their actions. They deal out $hit like this & then hang around the smoko room wondering why they're under Ministerial scrutiny. Speaking of that, isn't there report due today? You'd think that's where their attention would have been focusing.
aquaman
This from Yankiwi about sums it up. The numbers of starters today is more important than the welfare needs of sick or recovering dogs.
