Idea for NZ racing

During the month of July there is a grand opportunity to do something special.

We should have an International jumps series that starts on a Saturday & runs through till the following Sat, spread right around the country. Invite jumps riders from the UK & Aus, min stake of $50k for maidens & $100k for Open races, Hurdles and Steeples & include a 2 mile flat race at each venue. Would revive winter racing & give us a clear point of difference.

Aussies have test matches between Irish  jockeys and their own.

NZ could just follow on from that.Good idea but would we have enough horses to do it.

Plenty of horses going around now capable of backing up in a few days if its planned smart.

make it a 6 race programme

1x maiden hurdle

1x open hurdle

1x maiden steeple

1x open steeple

1x Rating 65 flat 3200mtr

1x Open 3200mtr

Start with Ellerslie on the Sat, Riccarton on the Sunday,  Wed Hastings, Friday Te Rapa & Sat Trentham.

What about the deep south.Could something be working in with the Riverton carnival or similar.

Of course, but the horse ranks are very thin jumping wise down there now and could be very risky financially.

I would be more inclined to ask - would we have enough $50k and $100k to do it?

Think its an excellent concept...and yes, agree re Riverton - great place,  lovely course,  but can be very, very testing ground and very costly getting sufficient horses down there [ esp for one day ].

Anybody on here think that nz Racing should have a designated jumping course as opposed to putting up hurdles on raceday.A whole new industry could shoot up.

Just dont think nz big enough to have designated jumping course for a few months in the winter each year.
