Actually just tricked Y’All,

Still Up, lockdown & all, lots of time on hand. Just thought of something to add.

Could do a Harness History Puppet Story.

Peeps are hanging out for Entertainment.

Just because in Auckland, don’t think that there is free-flowing stimulating entertainment & affordable entertainment.

Something I struggle BIG TIME with whilst in NZ. Boredom central.

Alex P would simply be the facilitator whilst bringing new faces to the Park. Giving a better rep to the game. New owners could be had. More turnover.

Got to try something new as think most BOAY users agree including yourself have already pointed out multi times, the current status quo JUST aint working.

Where is your actual IDEA Ranga? No trickery.

Quick question - Why do you think bouncers at niteclubs make peeps wait in line, even when one enters it maybe near empty?

Why is that Ranga? What are they hoping to achieve?

The Warsaw Dance Troupe are somewhat hamstrung by the ongoing Covid Pandemic.

Actually at the Easter show a couple of years ago, had lots of entertainment. This show is popular & next door to the Park.

This year due to Covid noticed many acts & things were missing eg. No art show work at all, no animals, no circus, no food restaurant area & so on.

Literally was simply just those rides things. Maybe like at your Cup Week thing.

So not really an Easter Show from the past due to Covid but YES, it sure has had an effect on International Performers.

Still lots of Peeps turned up with their kids!

Put some entertainment on the track too Karrots. If the racing is boring like Brodster says you still need some sort of spectacle that involves horses.

The EKKA here (brisbane Show) had all sorts of horses, as well as the standardbreds, to entertain. (stock horses, Police horses , even Chariot horses.

The Chariots could do a lap or 2 of the track, and look quite spectacular !! here's team Gammalite

Free Entry and Racebook

Stevies Pies

Totalisator Betting Incentive/Rebate

Area set aside for wives, girl friends and non gambling children. In the case of Alex Park I am thinking say Cornwall Park.

TAB and at least 2 other bookmakers betting to lose a minimum of 2k.

No entertainment other than the races themselves and maybe wood chopping but I am not sure about the latter.

I reserve the right to add to this as more brainwaves arrive.

Aids in maintaining their over inflated sense of importance ?

Correct, well partially.

They do it to create an illusion from the outside that there is a GREAT ATMOPSHERE INSIDE. To try to encourage punters in.

Brods hit nail on head NEED ATMOSPHERE to get peeps back. Or the last 1 out can turn the lights out.

You are creating a real-time atmosphere here.

Would Brods who attended with his super fan friend, be more incline to one-day come back if he has kids, or would he be more incline to tell friends etc about hey you guys should check it out, think you might like it. They had this & this going on.

Or course you wouldn’t do ALL from list in 1 day, pick bits & pieces. Could be on a smaller scale too, but would need to be enough to draw peeps. Different activities could be selected this was just an example.

Much better to have the course full than have it like an empty nite club where they pretend its amping with lots of folks inside.

So yes Gamms could have chariots if there was room. Great idea re use middle of track for horse things.

They actually have at Cambridge rides in the sulky for kids. Well they used 1-2 years ago, not sure they still have it. Guess so.

They have a lil area out the back & the kids karts ponies multiple of them go around in circles & a new kiddy gets a turn.

They also have/had at Cambridge croquet. Along with at Cambridge celebrity sulky challenge & also a standardbred/gallopers high jumping challenge that took place inside the track area.

Not sure why Ranga you are mocking ideas. And then not putting forth any yourself. Yet cry out about the industry going down-hill.

Another idea would be to have 1 specific meeting that they just build up & pump the marketing crap out of. And target EVERYONE. Kind of like the Jewels did at Cambridge this year. Pack the course out & aim for the highest turnover for the year.

Have entertainment also & food & drink packages. Again market it hard.

Try to ride off it like they do at Addington NZ CUP week. Think read on here that someone said that that turnover for the week helps overall as the rest is just bread & butter.

Try & get it like an annual popular thing were it is known in Auckland among many e.g. how going to the gallops Boxing Day races is thing. And hugely popular.

A better way to facilitate this would be to have a ticket counter area separate & away from the activities.

For pony patts or pony rides in sulky or any other activity. Actually could have a couple of activity get your ticket here counters.

This way parents & kids are not stuck standing in a boring line for ages waiting & missing racing action.

Instead for certain rides or attractions they go get a ticket which has a time on it. EG 3.50 pm this also is around races so watching racing is encouraged.

Then at that time they go up to the ride - attraction itself & present the ticket.

The tickets could be given out say with a time on every 10-15 mins.

Parents can also go about & enjoy their day without having to worry about waiting in line.

Then kids also know they have a fun activity coming up, & meanwhile there is racing action plus street performers & food/drink to take in. Plus its summertime. The sun is beaming down.

Street performers could also influence encourage crowd into watching when its on & asking parents & kids who are you on in the race coming up. Remember kiddies will have their free fun betting number ticket from Kiddy Tote. With a chance to win a small fun prize.

I wasn't mocking.

4 of my 5 excellent "on the money suggestions" are the very reasons I would head to Addington Raceway.

Happy to discuss.

Ok cool, sorry maybe I misread your post. Yes lets discuss it, I have ALL day & ALL day tomorrow too & maybe even ALL week. Im still in my lockdown PJs, so hope you don't mind a bit of banter PJ styles. Its still a.m anyway.

Ok so lets chat. This isn't about attracting you or me, as we are already engaged in racing.

Which point of your 4 would attract new peeps to the track? 😄

Ah okies, I had momentarily borrowed the Brodsters self interest cap and was thinking only of what would get me back. But they are fabulous ideas.

I probably can't help you much but I can tell you my initial experiences as a suburban boy from a non racing family with a TAB amongst the local shops.

My first racecourse/betting experiences were summer holiday trips from Tahunanui Beach Camp to the Richmond Equalisator Trots first thing in the new year. I remember once going to an equalization dog meeting somewhere in Marshlands.

There was a thrill in watching the horse I had drawn race. It was a good family day out with other known families. Plenty of grass to run around on and candy floss for fuel.

To be continued..........

Knew it, knew you were holding out on us all, with Vivid memory thread, not posting. Dog box for Ranga.

Yes you are right, Brods idea was a self interest cap& it went back to those that are already engaged. Not attracted new participants on course. I accepted it as he was putting into conversation & it is a point.

It would increase turnover. I have viewed a video where Woodham stated he is in favour or something of that perhaps as early as next year, un-restricting restricted.

Im not really that clued up on how it all works re TAB turnover, how much is taken out per bet regardless of win loss, etc. The only thing I could think is if every bet does take a percentage & then the whole turnover is counted then yes Brods has a point.

If it is tho that then TAB would lose with those punters being able to come back then I get that perspective too. But I really don’t know enough about it to make an informed opinion on it.

But GET YOUR POINT.

Yes Hot Dogs, Candy Floss, Coke & Diet Coke those are all available at the Easter Show too. Which is held annually next door to Alex Park & attracts thousands. Altho this years show, is was more like an A&P show, so most likely less will attend next year. Also missing was tug of war, muscle man show, carton character show, like a mirror show.

Think they Candy Floss, Hot Dogs etc used to be available at the races too.

Think Grass track racing may have that advantage over Metropolitan, in sense  peeps can & still go have picnics etc. That sort of thing doesn’t go down as well on the concrete at Alex.

Still waiting for these 4 out of 5 excellent on the money suggestions.

We must get the children addicted to gambling as early as possible.

Need to have a proper kids tote with confectionery as the currency. Use the actual tote prices to pay out.

No restrictions either. Bet what they have. 2 Crunchies and 11 Anniseed Balls each way.

So raffles at races or in general, with tickets given out BUT actually COST money to purchase, would also conclude to getting kiddies addicted to gambling in Rangas world?

Actually now on subject of mocking, why did you mock the Vivid memories thread also? You were the only poster to do so.

Bit of a slap in the face to ALL those that posted their wonderful memories.

Now come on this thread that you also mock & post your memory.

Didn't know Alex P held Fashion in the Fields. Certainly never ever discussed fashion in fields on here. Believe another poster brought that up, not me.

Karrots awaits Ludwigs & Rangas brilliant ideas to attract new potential re-occuring participants to Alex P.

I am not really into gimmicks but if you are forcing me to come up with one I would say a vegetable growing competition for the largest carrot. With a free return trip for one to Ohakune as the winning prize.
