Sadly Brodie on the money again: Teenage parasuicides double.

Recommended Posts

This is a serious problem, with kids and adults, I have a friend suffering lockdown and he’s in his 70s. He talks to me daily with his issues. He’s on top of it and has to see his doc next week. Kids I find hard as when I grew up i only  knew one kid at 13 hung himself, they said it was an accident, but I dunno.

cheers

In the year to 30 June 2021, 607 people died by suspected suicide, compared to 628 the year before
– a decrease of 21 deaths, and a drop in the suspected suicide rate from 11.8 deaths per 100,000 to
11.6.

And in Australia for whomever claimed rates had sky-rocketed.

Despite early modelling at the outset of the pandemic predicting a steep rise in suicides, fortunately these latest ABS figures show that the number has decreased.

In fact, the data shows suicide rates are the lowest they've been since 2016. This aligns with what we're seeing in many countries around the world, reversing a climbing trend prior to COVID-19.
