Totally agree.

Dont take this as a racist comment either, but most of those Malaysian riders don’t have a single clue what they are doing out there, and some are downright dangerous bordering on incompetent.

They come over here due to not being up to scratch in their own jurisdiction and it’s not hard to see why, we just take anyone with a license.

Brandon May would be included in that bunch too, his riding is shocking.

But you are right, even the so called seniors down south are awful, Sam Wynn, Chris Johnson both shadows of their former selves.

A half decent north island rider could go down south and get the pick of any ride they liked if they had the inclination, as the competition for the good rides down there is nonexistent.

Be interesting to see what is in the stipes report around the fall of Corey Campbell , one of the asian guys was at fault from what i could see .

But your right about the seniors , S Wynne is up there with some of the kids , downright dangerous , K Williams is usually the best down there but she absolutely butchered one today , gave it no chance , and that is my pocket talking , but they must think they are on Winx what they ask some horses to do . Look at CWJ's ride on Louie Louie , never a hope , never looked to get closer , as i said looked like they all had their kiwisaver on Robina Joy .

Like i said the other day , you have top put your money on and hope the horse is good enough to overcome the ride , like Avitus today , ugly as sin ride but the horse was good enough to still win .

Certainly not racist, CC...many of these young people are my friends, but a more inept  bunch it would be hard to find.  I think Kavish Chowdoory has improved - used to let his rides roll all over the place,  but he seems to be better lately.    He is at least strong, and I thought his ride on Royal Wings competent.  Waited, and waited more, before asking her to stretch out and she responded well.

It's noticeable  that T Rae drops the regulars like a hot rock when she can put Lisa Allpress up , says it all really .

Terri puts any rider on notice that Lisa is the stable elect whenever possible.  I suspect there is some financial incentive for Lisa, but I'm only speculating.

Krishna Mudhoo works for the stable, but knows the score.

Hard to know what the alternative is. We are probably lucky to have the ones we have. It is hardly an attractive live-style. What other occupation do you face the possibility of a month or so with no earnings if you make a split second mistake doing your job? A rugby player keeps getting paid if he gets banned for a month or so. If you are in the SI you only have one race-meeting every couple of weeks, unless you want to make a 16 hour round trip then you might get one meeting a week, often with only 7 or 8 races. And then whenever there is the occasional decent meeting a NI jockey will pop down for any decent months. And they can hardly learn their trade at low key meetings as our tiered racing system is a joke.

Hopefully someone is trying to encourage them to learn from their mistakes. Nothing wrong with constructive criticism, its the only way they will learn.  What steps are being taken to make sure CWJ passes on his knowledge to the new generation?

Good comments.    However, if you know Chris at all, you should realise that he is the most unassuming, laid-back, easy going guy you could find.  He very seldom criticises anyone, and being in the spotlight embarrasses him hugely.

He is not the right person for teaching.     One-on-one, you will get an opinion.  Not in public though.

My former partner [ R.J ' Mouse' Mccann ]  was a competent rider in his time, lazy and unmotivated though, but well able to hold his own in any riding company.  He gave up, not through weight issues, but because he got sick of trying to ride races against the plethora of female apprentices.  He wasn't sexist, not at all, but there just seemed to be so many young riders not taught and not held accountable. He grumbled to me once, I'm wasting my time trying to ride a decent race, all I can do is keep out of their way.  It's like dodgems.  He used to enjoy getting the chance to ride at Trentham, in particular, when Jimmy Walker, Noel Harris, etc, were rivals, not a bunch of sheilas that couldn't steer. [ his words..! ]  Now, we have the imports who can't steer.

Chris, it may have been noticed, spent - and still does sometimes - a lot of time dragging his mounts out the back.  Part of that had to do with his own personal issues...but much also, to do with the need to not get flattened.

Poor racing control hasn't just started.  It has been trending downwards for a good while, but - chickens do come home to roost.

It's what it is now and aint going to change in the fore seeable future , i'm pleased i made the decision to stop the day to day hands on training , i got to the stage i was getting pissed every day with piss poor and lazy track riders and then get to the races to get an even worse race ride , very demoralising .

Now i just get pissed watching my money get ridden down the drain .

He wouldn't be accused of being sexist now , he would be saying it about them all .

Why isn't Mouse the riding master? did he tell them all to get fucked?

During the last conversation I had with one BF Deacon I asked him who was the best rider he saw during his lifetime in NZ, without hesitation he said MRC.........the worst I inquired.........D Walsh was the reply........Deac didn't suffer fools, why he didn't rate Walsh surprised me, but I never pushed him.

Pay is not enough plus going on what @Freda has written he would fail in terms of PC.  You can't tear someone a new arsehole nowadays even if they are in the process of killing or injuring themselves!

You see Chief that's where it's all arse about face, Saundry, who doesn't know which end kicks, is on mega bucks and yet there is no reasonable/attractive salary for a real good ex jock with personal skills to take on that role......it's so bloody rooted it's sick.

I hear you.  I'm up to page 19 and I just can't seem to get rid of this feeling of deja vu!  None of it so far focuses on developing quality product or generating revenue!
