New york indictments

Well Well Well, look who's name has popped up in the wire taps, could there be some nervous people at the Blue Bin here in Oz?

During the trial prosecutors also played an FBI wiretap in which Navarro was recorded speaking to Fishman.

Another prominent name that emerged in court in one of the wiretaps was that of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and the owner of the international successful Godolphin racing stable. On the other end of the line in the 2019 call was Florida harness trainer Adrienne Hall, who testified Jan. 27 that Fishman put her on a program with his PEDs and that she administered the drugs to a horse that won a low-level claiming race. Hall agreed to testify in exchange for a non-prosecution agreement.

On the wiretap Fishman appears to discuss a $2 million "program" that Dubai Equine, a veterinary hospital build by Sheikh Mohammed in 1995, devised for Thoroughbreds.

A transcript of the wiretap obtained Monday begins with Fishman telling Hall that his program "is not instantaneous."

"Right, so OK, because they are racing on Sunday—they are going to be in on Monday. I gave the other stuff today anyway," Hall says.

Fishman then goes on to say that it takes one or two weeks to start things.

"This is a program," he says. "This is a program that Dubai Equine spent probably $2 million devising for their Thoroughbreds, you know? It is part of a program that uh, you know…there's other stuff too."

Fishman goes on to say that he was bringing Hall on slowly.

Fishman adds, "This is what they do for all their horses and overall, they are very happy. Sheikh (sic) Mohammed Maktoum (sic) said the best three years, you know, in the 30 years he has been racing and they are very happy. So, I'm sharing stuff with you. But then again that's for Thoroughbreds so we just have to tweak some things out because some of the stuff I design for Standardbreds, they don't work. So that's why I'm charging you a fraction of what I normally charge so let's just go baby steps, and we will just start from there, alright."

Godolphin representatives were not available for comment Monday evening.

A tally shows the wiretap was one of 55 recordings the jury heard in the case. Almost all of them involved Fishman.

The Thoroughbred industry's leading publications are working together to cover this key trial.

But what you have written isn't factually or rather technically correct.  I might add that from what I've read so far there has been no mention of EPO being found in any of the confiscated bottles of snakeoil.

Well it is from what has been reported.

For example a Sarah Izhaki plead guilty to offering to distribute a form of EPO as well as offering masking agents. Texts on her phone indicated she had supplied dozens of trainers. She was caught offering to supply investigators who posed as horsemen. Got the drugs from mexico. She apparently sometimes sold it from the back of her car in supermarkets carparks

Many of the cases are ongoing, many have negotiated plea deals where they have plead guilty to the major charges if others were dropped, and so on. Its been widely reported that amongst all the evidence is proof of widespread use of products used  as blocking agents, masking agents,EPO agents and products similar to clenbuterol and viagra.

A part of many of the cases was the resulting evidence of horse cardiac issues, leg fractures and horse deaths.

Its been widely reported that  these products were "used to manipulate horse racing across the globe". Obviously the prosecutors focus has been on the USA citizens they can punish.

So chief i think you will have a hard job convincing anyone that those importing, distributing and using the products over many years, and who based that use on the results they got, were all duped with snake oil.

But there is no evidence that EPO caused those deaths or in fact is performance enhancing.  In my opinion it is shady operators taking advantage of the clearly evident advantages in the human athlete e.g. the Lance Armstrong Marketing Effect.

The circulatory physiology of an equine is significantly different to that of a human.

If you look at the science if EPO does cause a spike in red blood cell count it wouldn't last long certainly not long enough to increase horse performance.  There is evidence that it would do the opposite I.e. cause anaemia.

Media reports.  But where is the evidence that EPO was performance enhancing?

No there are numerous examples of how people are duped.  You only have to look at the cosmetic anti-aging industry.

Or the Cobalt saga.  It doesn't actually do what it is supposed to do.  Too much reduces horse performance because it is toxic.  Initially the Feds were measuring the wrong type of Cobalt!

The latest product a harness trainer has been charged with using as a PED is called BioBleeder.  It's extract of common garden variety Dandelion!

I can see how the use of Clenbuterol could help a horse as it has a documented proven therapeutic benefit.  Navarro and co did exactly what Armstrong did manipulated the testing regime.

Getting back to EPO Armstrong didn't return a positive only because he was never tested WHEN he had it in his system.  He had a team of people helping him avoid testing when he did.
