Chief Stipe
Melbourne Cup Was there an excuse for the Cup favourite? Incentivise pulled up with swelling in the left foreleg after the Melbourne Cup. Picture: Getty Images By Brad Waters09:28pm • 02 November 2021 Comments Beaten Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise will be examined by a vet in the coming days after the Peter Moody camp reported the stayer had swelling in a foreleg after the race. Incentivise was far from disgraced when second to brilliant mare Verry Elleegant in a Melbourne Cup run in hot conditions. Moody advised Racing Victoria Incentivise had a small amount of swelling in his left foreleg upon cooling down after the race. Moody’s stable vet has examined Incentivise and will reassess the gelding’s recovery from the Melbourne Cup later in the week. Meanwhile, University of Melbourne vets are treating the Symon Wilde-trained Tralee Rose for a wound suffered early in the Melbourne Cup. Tralee Rose required stitches after being galloped on in the Cup. Picture: Getty Images Wilde said Tralee Rose was galloped on early in the race before the mare finished ninth, more than 16 lengths from the winner Verry Elleegant. Racing Victoria vets attended Tralee Rose at Flemington before she was transported to the University of Melbourne veterinary clinic at Werribee. Wilde told News Corp that Tralee Rose had been sedated ahead of what he hoped would be ‘just a stitch-up job’. Both Wilde and the University of Melbourne vets later advised Racing Victoria the mare had not suffered any tendon damage or structural issues. Tralee Rose will stay at the Werribee clinic overnight before heading back to Wilde’s Warrnambool stable on Thursday.
Chief Stipe
Group 1 RacingMelbourne Cup Serious concerns for Incentivise following Melbourne Cup injury Melbourne Cup runner-up Incentivise pulled up sore after the race. Picture: Racing Photos via Getty Images By Trenton Akers12:13pm • 03 November 2021 Comments Connections of Melbourne Cup runner-up Incentivise are sweating on the results of a second set of scans after he pulled up lame following his gallant run for second as favourite in Tuesday’s race. Managing owner Steve Tregea confirmed his home-bred superstar had suffered the injury in his fetlock area and displayed lameness shortly after the gruelling 3200m trip. “He has inflammation in the near-side fetlock,” Tregea said. “They scanned it and didn’t see a lot but there was inflammation and fluid there and he was lame so we will see what the second scan shows. “It is not a CT scan, just a normal scan they use on pregnant mares to see under the skin. It is in the fetlock so they don’t really know what it is, they have iced it and wrapped it up but he was lame on it shortly after the race. “When you are racing horses, these things are always on the cards. It is disappointing but you just have to cop these things.” Incentivise was set for an extended spell as it was after a busy winter and spring but his Melbourne Cup setback now has his racing future unclear while they wait for veterinary analysis. Incentivise has never shown signs of soreness like this after a race and it is the first time he has pulled up lame in his short but incredible career. “He ducked out on the corner so I would say something has gone wrong there,” Tregea said. “(Trainer) Peter (Moody) said he wasn’t lame immediately but soon after he was favouring that leg and had inflammation around it.”
Chief Stipe
Positive scan results for beaten Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise will head for a well-earned rest after his second in the Melbourne Cup. Picture: Racing Photos via Getty Images By Trenton Akers05:27pm • 04 November 2021 4 Comments Superstar stayer Incentivise has been given a clean bill of health after completing a second set of scans on Thursday afternoon in Victoria. The beaten Melbourne Cup favourite pulled up lame from his brave second placing on Tuesday and there were fears he may have suffered a serious injury after experiencing significant swelling in his fetlock post race. Despite conjecture, Incentivise did not have a second scan on the lame area until Thursday afternoon and has since been cleared, paving the way for him to return to racing in the autumn following a significant spell. Trainer Peter Moody said the battle-weary Incentivise will head to the spelling paddock for an extended break with an eye towards autumn. “Still a bit jaded, the boy,” Moody said. “He’s still a bit battle-weary. He did himself extremely proud and we are extremely proud of him. “He got beat by an absolute champion there on Tuesday. We are hoping he’s the new boy on the block for a few years to come. “As soon as the weather clears, he will head off for a well-earned rest. Get him out in the paddock, get a bit of green grass in his belly and hopefully a bit of Victorian sunshine on his back.” Incentivise was back swimming at Moody’s Pakenham stables on Thursday morning in a sign he is on the road to recovery. Picture: Getty Images Moody confirmed there were no set plans for Incentivise following his Melbourne Cup run but indicated he was keen to get him back into his stables in the autumn. “We look forward to having him back in the stables some time during the autumn when he is ready to kick up again, he will let us know, there are no plans in place,” Moody said. Connections of Incentivise received an invitation to the lucrative Group 1 Japan Cup (2400m) following his devastating Caulfield Cup victory last month but managing owner Steve Tregea confirmed the race would have been a bridge too far even if the gelding pulled up well from the Melbourne Cup. As the winner of the Caulfield Cup, Incentivise was eligible for a $4m bonus on top of the $3.75m winners cheque had he travelled to Japan and won.

Chief Stipe
Star galloper Incentivise out for foreseeable future The future of brilliant stayer Incentivise is up in the air. Picture: Scott Barbour–Racing Photos via Getty Images By Trenton Akers04:04pm • 06 December 2021 3 Comments Caulfield Cup winner Incentivise will not race for the foreseeable future with new scans revealing the tough-as-nails stayer suffered serious injuries during his gallant second placing behind Verry Elleegant in the Melbourne Cup. The Darling Downs-bred gelding has returned to Queensland to spell but was sent to the world-class University of Queensland Vet Hospital at Gatton recently for a check up, which revealed injuries to both his front suspensory ligaments. When contacted, managing owner Steve Tregea confirmed the injuries, saying the three-time Group 1 winner could miss the Queensland winter carnival as a result. “He has had exhaustive scans along with an MRI at the University of Queensland Vet Hospital at Gatton and it found damage to his fetlocks,” Tregea said. “He has to be re-scanned in February to see where it is at then. The report says it takes three to six months to heal and they will advise from there. “There is a chance he doesn’t make the winter carnival as a result.” Incentivise will undergo significant treatment at Tregea’s Windermere Stud property near Toowoomba as he attempts to get him back to the races in full health. Picture: Scott Barbour — Racing Photos via Getty Images. “He is up here at the moment recovering, he has substantial follow-up treatment to come including PRP (Plasma-Rich Protein) and he has to have shockwave treatment every week,” Tregea said. It caps off what has been a rollercoaster few months for connections of Incentivise, who reeled off nine consecutive wins which took him from a Sunshine Coast maiden over 1600m to winning the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and Caulfield Cup (2400m) in the space of six months. The five-year-old was then found by stewards to be lame following his second placing in the Melbourne Cup on November 2 before trainer Peter Moody’s vets gave him the all clear two days later. On top of that, Incentivise’s trip back to Queensland was momentarily halted when police got involved with his flight home, throwing plans into chaos. His incredible run of form has seen him net $5.7m in prizemoney in just 13 starts to date. Tregea sold a 50 per cent share in the son of Shamus Award to leviathan owners Brae Sokolski and Ozzie Kheir following his incredible nine-length win at Eagle Farm in June. nomates
Something i didn't realise , Ardrossan is a half brother to Incentivise . I have always thought that Ardrossan was a chance but this has elevated him greatly for me , and at 4k a nice price for a well bred horse that had more to offer on the track .
