Chief Stipe
Industry Social media erupts over Golden Eagle prizemoney increase By Racenet03:04pm • 10 November 2021 Comments It's not often a $500,000 prizemoney increase sparks as much reaction as this. News yesterday that Racing NSW is increasing the Golden Eagle prizemoney to $8m – making it the second richest race in the nation behind The Everest ($15m) – worked social media users into a muck lather. Reactions to the announcement were divided but there was no shortage of people questioning whether it was the best way to spend the substantial sum of money. While many lauded the move as another significant boost for racing, others suggested the only motivation for the decision was to relegate the Melbourne Cup ($7.75m) further down the pecking order. The divide between Racing NSW and Racing Victoria has never been greater and the announcement did little to deescalate rising tensions between the two major racing jurisdictions. Here are just some of the reactions on social media
Joe Bloggs
PVL is a clown, megalomaniac, another that surrounds himself with crawlers, a polite word for arselickers. Having said that, RVL are no better, racing is thriving here, but grass roots racing needs incentives as that's where the majority of people are stationed, owners, trainers, jocks, breeders, if that kind of dosh is surplus then it should go to improving many of our country tracks, when it rains tracks like Ballina, Lismore.......oh there are too many to name are un-raceable, the Northern Rivers areas, they need help, but blokes like PVL surrounded by sycophants are deaf, blind and guided by adulation with the press fawning all over him. This is what happens when you give someone too much power. Our bush racing used to be so so good, huge crowds, big betting rings and the bush town riding on the success .......it's not what it was, and it could be, gambling is in our blood here, it will never die, so the revenue streams will continue, it's just the people that count....don't.......and that needs fixing!
Huey
Even with their extraordinary prize money over there, they still get what many of us having been saying over here for years about looking after the base of the industry.
Freda
From the above observations of Joe, it seems as if there could still be a bit more support for those very grassroots venues and folk associated. With so much dosh to spread around, it should be possible to cover all bases.
