Chief Stipe
Has anyone seen the revised whip rules as promised?
billy connolly
I heard they're going to revoke Rule 636 (1) (a) A person shall not run a horse, or cause or permit a horse to be run, other than on its merits.

With regards to not running a horse on its merits, how hard would it be to hide a dead one here? Would the whip police get a sniff? Would they know the difference between hitting one and stopping one??? Is there a Hall of Shame for stopping horses like there is for whipping them?
Joe Bloggs
Billy, you couldn't give one a run in NZ, the jocks aren't good enough.

That actually made me laugh out loud Joe! Hell we had a Jockey that couldn't give our horse a "run" in a trial! "WTF did you do that for?" "Oh the other Jockey's teased me to have a go and the horse was keen". Interesting watching a trainer design another arsehole for a smaller person. Joe Bloggs
Riddle me this team, how is it that 30 odd years back NZ pumped out champion jocks, too many to single out, they could all hold their own against the best here in Oz, why not now.......serious question? Can recall a well known hurdle jockey of the 1970's (Harry Green) copping a long lag for stopping one in a highweight event one day. Green stopped it by running it up their arses, he could have gone the cape route and not got caught but he looked after the horse and paid the price. H. Green won some good races on both sides of the Tasman including the 1973 Grand National Hurdles - https://australianjumpsracing.com/news/51626-this-day-in-jumps-racing-history Edited January 27, 2022 by billy connolly

curious
Jockeys in Sweden will no longer be able to use the whip for encouragement when the new racing season begins in that country on Apr. 10. Swedish racing authority Svensk Galopp has published a new rule that will allow jockeys to carry the crop, but only use it “to ward off a dangerous situation.” Recently, jockeys in Sweden have been allowed to hit their horses three times in a race. The whip, however, has not been allowed in jumps racing or for 2-year-old racing. Helena Gartner, project manager of the Scandinavian Racing Regulations Committee, said, “The use of the whip in Sweden has been discussed for years. The regulations have changed gradually and the foam-padded sticks were introduced some years ago, but now it is time to ban the use of the whip completely. Whip use in horse racing simply does not belong in 2022.”

Chief Stipe
Some perspective on Thoroughbred Racing in Sweden. Svensk Galopp, internationally known as the Swedish Horseracing Authority, is the ruling body of Thoroughbred and Arabian racing in Sweden. We stage approximately 70 race days per annum with over €6 million in prize money on offer. The Swedish racing calendar includes two Group 3 races and 14 Listed races.
